You're better off hoping for a wild pitch or a passed ball.
Yes, Barger was the more important run because he ties the game but if either are out you just gave away an out and have nobody in scoring position.

My point is there was zero chance they are bunting - the lodged ball changed nothing in this situation .

Jays led the major leagues with 20 sacrifice bunts this season.
With the Dodgers pen, you play for the tie first, and assume you win in extras if necessary

The bunt/non bunt thing is irrelevant. The correct call was made by the umpires, and obviously in the situation that presented itself clement wasn’t bunting.
That end is haunting though. If we lose tomorrow, the sting won’t go away for a while

The bunt discussion was a what- if, if the ball wasn't lodged and Straw.scored

Jays were the better team tonight. Different defensive positioning could’ve saved a couple runs vs Betts. But Gausman lights out as was Varland and Bassitt. But all for naught.
Now it’s a coin flip. No room for simple mistakes like there was tonight. A lucky bounce here or there can now decide it too.
And you’ve given Betts Freeman Teo and Ohtani another chance to be a difference maker.
Scherzer you just hope still has it. Dodgers will cobble together something with Otanhi and Glasnow and who knows who else.
Jays will need probably 4 runs and they can manufacture it out of nowhere but getting the lead would be ideal.
All that said I kind of sense a blowout by one team. Hope it’s the right one.

Scoring Winger

The lodged ball was strange but probably doesn’t change the situation at all other than making it a no pressure play for the Jays. If they play it off a bounce it could’ve been a close play at 2 because of how fast it got to the wall and straw probably holds at 3 because 0 out

Yeah lodged ball does nothing. That caroms off the wall in a normal fashion it would be touch and go to send Straw home.
Barger for sure though wouldn’t go any further then second (hopefully) because if they didn’t throw home for Straw (or even if they did and cut it off) and Barger tried for third, he’d have been out easily. Dodgers would take 3-2 bases empty with 1 out then 3-2 man on second 0 out.

I'm having a hard time staying optimistic right now to be honest.
Can't shake the feeling that 2nd and 3rd with no outs was their chance to end this...and they let it slip away.

Yeah I'm not sure Straw scores. Barger smoked that ball and if it bounced off the wall normally it would have been relayed back quickly. They don't risk sending him home with 0 outs when his run doesn't matter.

Straw was already at 3rd when it got to the wall - he was scoring for sure. Barger is definitely getting 2, and if the fielder doesn't play it clean, there is a chance he gets 3rd.

Yeah, doesn’t feel good. That’s now the 4th heartbreaking loss of the post season for the Jays. When they lose, they lose dramatically.

Watch the replay again. When the fielder throws up his hands signalling the lodged ball, Straw is already rounding 3rd

I get you but at this point they can come up with innings like that, as they have all season. Yamamoto came out after 6 and the one guy took care of the Nays, but then Sasaki came in the 8th and Jays had bases loaded in 8th with 2 out and then the 9th got something started right away again.
Against this Dodgers team and the patchwork pitching they will have tomorrow, they can have those same small ball grind it out innings potentially earlier in the game.
That did make tonight tough, the Jays beat themselves in the 9th rather then taking more time and batters and patience, as they have all season, to wait to have the Dodgers implode. 3-2 Barger at second 2 out. Top of the lineup. Even if George gets a walk the self doubt creeps in to Glasnow. Jays could go on and get 3 that inning and win.
But I’ll bet the Jays get to the Dodgers like that again earlier tomorrow and just hope the Jays pitching can keep up. If Scherzer doesn’t have it bring in Beiber and Bassitt. Or Lauer.

I dunno. It feels like they’ve spent all the great pitching they’ve had to give but have proven me wrong over and over. When the chips are down this Jays team has come up big. I hope they have one more big performance in them to win it and they’ve given us lot of reasons to believe. No matter what it’s been magical but damn just win one more please.

The only times the Jays haven't looked like the clearly better team was when Yamamoto was on the mound. He won't be on the mound tomorrow

I kind of feel like I did after game 6 in 2004. Just a huge letdown. The only difference is they still have home field and the Flames had to go back to Tampa.
There's still hope but there's also dread that they're going to lay an egg.

Not even close. Straw isn’t even halfway between 2nd and 3rd when the arms first go up in the air.

I didn't think we'd win this game and thought we'd win game 7 before going into game 6 so going into game 7 knowing we outhit them in game 6 by a score of 8-4 gives me a ton of confidence.
