I just watched the Killarney mayoral debate and Sharp's performance was awful. It's like she's only running so she can dump on others.
Not what I want to see in my mayor.
(And I imagine Davison is running so he can book local comedy clubs later on)

The Danielle Smith, PP, Trump school of politics. Let's hope it doesn't win in Calgary civic elections.

Unfortunately, most of her supporters probably have never heard her speak and are very unlikely to watch the debate. They likely just said "who is the conservative?" and then put up a sign.
It is really tragic that so many people still support the conservative movement so blindly when the conservative movement has been perverted so far away from what it used to be. Even the slightest of questioning attitudes would clue in quickly that the conservative movement is becoming more and more a vehicle for corporatist control and grifting of public funds.

I wonder about Farkas from a backbone perspective. Does he have it in him to stand up for Calgary, as the province continues to try to push their way into municipal politics. But I'm also reminded that he's only one vote on the council.
Gondek's first term was not that stellar, but it's the unknown of other candidates that worries me. At least with her, you kind of know what you're getting. I'd like to go with Thiessen but wondering if that's just throwing away a vote.
For councillor I'm leaning towards Dan or Joey.
For school trustee, Jenny Regal.

I haven't dove deep yet but won't vote for a party candidate so Nowak is out.
For me its between Dan and Ali with me leaning toward Ali only because I know he served on the Rocky Ridge/Royal Oak Community association and, as a RRRO resident, I selfishly hope he finally truly tackles the issues in our neighborhood (the gravel route -112ave 85st intersection and the increased concenrs that has come with the "warming center" at the Journey Church)
Still have to take a further look and watch the debate from the Vasity Community Center. Either way, I'm excited SS will no longer represent us.

I watched some of the mayors debate tonight, and honestly Thiessen is the best candidate. He’s just run such a terrible campaign and can’t have a chance. I didn’t really want to vote for a party at all, but I might go that route.

So far he's the one who has impressed me most, its a shame he's party affiliated.

Sure, but basically all these front runners have their warts.

Wow, Sonya Sharp was awful. I was expecting to disagree with what she said, but her public speaking skills were really bad. Davison, OTOH, is sleazy but can at least speak in front of an audience.
I thought Brian Thiessen had the best performance, but there's a lot of things I don't like about his party and some of the things he said.
I thought Gondek did a little better than I expected and Farkas a little worse, but both were okay.
Overall, I'm right back where I started. Sharp and Davison definitely out. Finally getting to hear Thiessen speak, I like him but not enough to ignore the things I don't like about his positions or how he ran his campaign. So it comes down to Gondek or Farkas. It was an easy decision 4 years ago. It might be a last minute, decide at the ballot box one this time.

I hope Thiessen runs next time and puts more chutzpah into his campaign, because yeah, he really does seem like he could be a great mayor. I just don't think he's done enough to get himself seen as a front-runner versus Gondek and Farkas. He's probably coming third.

What are the issues you have with his policies?

Yeah, I kind of wonder if that was a miscalculation on his part thinking that it might resonate with some voters.

Anyone have the latest polling? I'd like to vote for Thiessen, but don't want to throw my vote away. I really don't want Sharp, Davison, or Farkas to win, so I think I'm stuck voting for Gondek again.

FWIW, as I understand it, they are shutting down the party the day after the election.
At the ward 11 debate Alex Williams said the biggest benefit of being party affiliated was the group buy of pamphlets and the sharing of ideas, because he had no idea on how to run a campaign on his own.

Attended the Ward 1 candidate forum a few days ago, and must say I came away mostly unimpressed. Didn’t know much about any candidate but probably have narrowed it down to 3.
Nobody stood out, except Dan Olesen who came across as a complete psycho. Nothing to do with his policy or ideas, but his erratic behaviour and (for lack of better words) odd grandstanding made it impossible to focus on what he was saying. For his sake, I hope it was just a bad night.

I am genuinely surprised to hear how many people are considering Farkas.

This is exactly where I am. The issue for me is that I don’t want a council who will just say no to everything and not do anything. I’m 100% not voting for Penner though.

My take after last night:
"Jeromy, you stand for nothing, have no backbone, flip-flop on every issue and have come across as an absolute opportunist after flaming out as a Councillor. Why should we vote for you?"
"Um... people change?"
