For nearly half that time it was impossible for teams in the same division to meet in the playoffs. There was no wild card until 1994 and then for some time after that there was only 1 wild card and the wild card never played the winner of its same division in the DA by rule, so they could only have met in the CS.

Exactly. And then when the Jays were dominant for a decade, 85-95, the Sox and Yanks were doormats. But then the changing of power(spending) shifted and it was a different story. And when the Jays got back to relevance, the playoff format shifted. Just a weird timeline in a weird sport.

Going to my first live Jays game in 20 years on Saturday. Games Saturday, Sunday and the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday. Should be one hell of a boys trip. Needless to say I haven’t been this excited for a trip in a long time. Go jays go!!!

What's crazy is this year, 6 of the 7 original AL East teams are in the playoffs.

Toronto, Yankees, Boston, Detroit, Cleveland and Milwaukee.
