I’m not discounting that thousands of murders happen in the US annually. But there’s typically a motive - like you said, a scorned lover. Or rivals.

This appeared to be just a random cold blooded murder, stabbing a woman in the neck while she sat in her train seat looking at her phone.

I’ll move to a different thread though - no idea if this was relevant to US politics.

That's exactly what it was. The murderer seems to have a criminal past and mental health issues according to several articles I've read. He also didn't have a ticket to be on the train, which is an issue that major cities, including our own, are facing. A growing mental health crisis and the transit system being used as a resting place.

This is also getting major coverage by the way, unfortunately most have coopted the tragedy for right wing talking points like Elon Musk but still, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister to America has spoken about it as well.

I thought it was odd that it popped up on my news feed. Hard to know why, but from what I’ve gathered on twitter it’s a huge issue for far right weirdos and virulent racists.

All things are relative so my definition of major here might be different than yours but google the story and it's getting much more play than any other random cold blooded murder.

When you make pithy "statute of limitations" posts it shows you're not understanding what other people are saying. No one isn't suggesting that this isn't tragic, or the video of it isn't gruesome or that we don't have a pulse it's just there's a reason you thought this happened yesterday and not two weeks ago when it happened. You're not getting why opendoor said that to you.

I’m genuinely curious why you seem obsessed with this one in particular? Multiple threads created and shared in multiple others. Of course it’s unsettling, but I can think of two such situations off the top of my head in Calgary, one this year and one a couple years ago. It’s not unique enough by itself to explain why a random murder in Charlotte is getting attention here. Not that it’s undeserving, just genuinely don’t know why.

For me, and I guess I could be blind to what happens on public transit? Would be wild if this is common though.

For me, the guy cutting another guys head off on the greyhound bus was the last time I saw something this gruesome. It’s weird though - that incident was international news at that time - and this? It’s hard to talk about. I mean… just look at my post history.
