The problem with the LOS link is we're literally in the woods. The advice I've gotten from IT people is just run the damn cable. The Rogers service guy also suggested that Cat6 would be fine up to 330ft... I was going to use this stuff.

amazon.ca/gp/product/B09M6L8YPK/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=A3SMWAE9R4RFCD&psc=1

The internet is now up and running at the main building at 900mbps so all I have to do is get it down there.

330 feet is Cat6a, not Cat6 which is half of that (it's down to the extra shielding of Cat6a cable). You'll probably be fine with Cat6, but I tend to err on the side of caution with this sort of thing.

Gotcha, LOS would not work so well when it's getting blocked by trees and such. Again, you could do high powered wireless mesh APs, but then again, a cable works too.

OK my research is showing that the 55m speed limit on Cat6 is for 10GBPS speeds and it should be fine for the full 330ft at 1gbps...

This is awesome because the LG is off most of the time but Windows knows about it so it still extends the desktop there and lets me move my mouse over there, or windows launch over there if I was watching something in a browser over there. But with the Start P I can specify primary or secondary monitor only.. when I turn on the LG and do that everything moves over and I don't have the mouse going off the side of the screen or any other dual monitor weirdness. Very nice.

I have a wireless keyboard and mouse so playing PC games on the LG is just a matter of swiveling my chair to the LG or back and moving my mouse/keyboard in front of whichever monitor I'm using.

Now I just need a digital audio cable to run from the TV to my sound card so I can listen to games being played on a console on my computer headset and I think the setup will be perfect.

Think I can find a 15' digital optical cable locally for a reasonable amount though? Yeah right, Amazon it is I guess.
Not sure if RTing's is the end all, but that LG gets better ratings across the board to my Aorus. Nice buy!

So, I have run 250 feet of CAT6 to my conduit but I think I'm going to put an RJ45 or something in there before running the rest through the conduit into the house in case the existing line (which is outdoors) fails or degrades or something, or if I want to replace it, etc.

If anyone thinks this is a bad idea for some reason let me know?

I'm not sure I entirely understand what you mean, the RJ45 would be outside the conduit? Wherever you put the RJ45 will definitely be your most likely point of failure so I'm not sure its worth it. If it does fail you could always cut a RJ45 in later if needed.

Yeah, unless you're beating the hell out of the cable somewhere in the run, your terminations are generally your weak points, so the fewer the better. And as indes says, it's easy to cut out and replace a faulty length of cable if you must.

It will be in the box where the conduit begins. Waterproof rj45s like this are pretty indestructible.

Looking into building my own PC (well paying Memory Express the $75.00 to build it cause im lazy). Outside of GPUs which are usually in demand, is there any benefit to waiting for black friday for sales?

Depends on what parts you want in it. If you're set on getting a certain processor/case/etc. they might not have any deals. Having said that, if they're not high demand components, it couldn't hurt to wait and see.

If you're pretty flexible about parts and don't mind the wait, then you might be able to snag a deal or two.

Yeah if your approach to building a PC is like mine, where I have some vague guidelines (i.e. I want this level of GPU performance, I want this form factor and I want these couple of features) and you're not married to particular brands, you can save a lot through BF (and by sniping a couple of things and sitting on them for a month or two leading up to your build).

I was in the same boat as you. Then I utilized PC Part Picker to select a build, and sourcing parts kinda turned fun for me. I ended up getting Mobo, ram and CPU from Memex, and they installed those three things for free. Sourced other parts from other vendors.

I did the rest myself.

Sick of getting packet loss om games and teams meetings lol. So bought a 30 foot ethernet cable. Now I just have to hope it doesn't get stolen as it was delivered on the day I'm at the office

Yeah I refuse to use wifi for machines I use constantly.

Though I did have a weird case where my router and work laptop docking station suddenly decided they hated each other and the connection between them dropped every 10 seconds.

I swapped the cable with one in a different port and both things were happy. Weird.

I just installed an SFP+ to ethernet adapter to my UniFi Dream machine to feed the lines in my home. I have 6a throughout and I also purchased a 2.5Gb switch for upstairs to feed several devices and I'm really happy. Amazing upgrade for an inexpensive cost.

The original throughput from the Dream Machine was gigabit and a ton of stuff was sharing that line, so the 10Gb SFP+ has addressed that bottleneck. Wifi speed testing is now showing as 20-40% faster than before in the same locations. Ethernet a little bit more than that upstairs. I knew there was a little bit of a bottleneck at times due to the amount of devices, but I honestly didn't imagine/realize that the gigabit was that big of a bottleneck.

I am rebuilding/reinstalling my NAS, so I'm excited to see what improvements to transfer speeds I'll see once that is up and running (reason why I got the SFP+ for the 10Gb). Expecting better than before where the speeds weren't quite fast enough for me to be happy with the performance. That's just me being picky though and not being happy with needing to wait like 5-10 minutes to upload an entire week of vacation photos via wifi and wanting to do it in a fraction of the time.

Also looking forward to reorganizing a few things so I can get a new desk in and have my computer dock set up sorted out without it being as messy as it currently is. A few things being upgraded from USB A to USB C/Thunderbolt (where possible) is also sorting out a lot of annoying laggy bottlenecks I was dealing with before. Also aiming to set up a new area for my IT stuff so that it's more organized and tucked away vs in the way in the utility room.
