I find the "you guys need to stop seeing garbage films from mindless franchises" take hilariously ironic coming from someone who has such strong feelings about the Dinosaur movie franchise. The call's coming from inside the house.

In fairness I wish that half of them were never made. My soul has already been crushed by the atrocities that were the 'World' movies'. It happened to be a mystery movie selection and plucking positives out of it was like sifting for personal belongings after your house has been decimated by a tornado. The thrill that once existed around JP is more or less dead. We're just working with what we've got, which isn't great.
Just like the Star Wars sequels. The franchise would be better off is they never existed. Now star wars is a tired franchise that only smatters of mostly disheartened fans still engage with.
Lol I dont care much because discussing movies is just s### and giggles nonsense at the end of the day but the point of being more discerning in what you'll rent or see given how quickly they whip up these forgettable sequels and how the numbers give them incentive to not care when to stop seems like a valid one.
I still end up watching crap now and then, but I'm happy that I'm choosing to engage in less of it when the warning signs are there.

I saw The Naked Gun on Saturday, and highly recommend it. It's been a long time since a fun comedy was in theatre, and it holds its own.
They didn't try to copy the originals, nor did they just give in to fan service (looking at you, Happy Gilmore), but it was just funny on its own merits.
I feel like the consumers don't know how to manage their expectations anymore. I liken it to going to In N Out burger in the US. You know the fries will be subpar, but the burger will be great, the lemonade killer, and the value fantastic. Five Guys is a million times better on every account, minus the beverages, but it's also like 4x the price.
If you go in thinking everything needs to be equal or better to something, then you'll be disappointed in life. If you go in with a firm understanding of what something is, and it meets - or in the case of this new Naked Gun movie, surpasses - expectations, then you'll probably live a more joyous, less anal-retentive life.

Fantastic 4 was mildly entertaining but overall felt pretty meh about it. I do appreciate that it's aesthetic is cool and I've always been a Silver Surfer fan but the rest of it was pretty average.
The Incredibles is still the best Fantastic Four movie

Saw Together last week on opening day because I had a free afternoon.
Was pretty decent, I was a bit disappointed they didn't go as hard on the body horror as they could have (easily eclipsed by many similar vibed films that have come out in the last couple years) but still managed to make my wife very squeamish.
Performances were good though the movie is basically 3 characters. First and Second acts were far more intense than the Third act sadly, similar to how I felt about Substance last year. Overall it didn't fully work but it was fun and I enjoyed it anyway
7.5/10

I can't decide if I liked Inherent Vice or not. Left it feeling the same way I did after seeing Under the Silver Lake where upon a rewatch or two I suspect it will grow on me.

Jurassic World: Rebirth - 6/10 - But I'll call it a 'soft' 6.
While very obviously not the greatest entry in the JP IP Universe, not the worst. It had Dinosaurs in it, so it had that going for it, which is nice.
I'd call it a pretty much 'Paint-By-Numbers' JP movie. You knew what you were going to get and it delivered that. The deaths were...standard, the tension largely contrived, it was a beautifully shot film though, so theres also that.
The obligatory random family they pick up along the way was pretty stupid, but your main characters were pretty good, for what it was. Its a good film to kill a few hours if your expectations are in line.
Your socks will remain firmly affixed to your feet, make no mistake, but its a fun couple hours but, probably, only once. I cant foresee wanting to watch it again.

Upon recommendation by Aeneas, I watched “Yesterday”, about an alternate reality where nobody in the world except the protagonist has ever heard of The Beatles. He wracks his brains trying to remember the lyrics and starts cranking out bangers the world has never known. Well worth watching.

I did finish, and I'll admit the second half of the movie made it tolerable.

30 years later and THIS was the script to motivate a sequel is hard to understand.

It's basically on par for a basic Adam Sandler comedy, which is not so great. There was a heavy reliance on physical comedy. Things like his family wanting to punch things or beating up a caddie just aren't that funny anymore, and he definitely didn't catch the vibes of the original with those jokes. Seemed almost like someone trying to copy Happy Gilmore for a high school skit.
The first half of the movie basically the first movie again, but Sandler is old and not as funny. It does get better in the second half.
That being said, it wasn't the worst thing in the world. It wasn't painful to watch. It was good to see the old characters.

It was a decent Sandler movie, but I think they swung and missed on one major sticking point.
The cameos are all well and good, but it seemed as though through the process of making the film they appeared to have forgotten the seemingly key element that their target audience, 30 years later, also grew up and their sense of humour along with them.
A joke from 30 years ago may still be funny, whether its 'nostalgic funny' or it just holds up, thats not really a solid basis for a film premise.
Overall, Happy2 was 3.6 Roentgen.

Happy Gilmore 2 - Get a better protagonist and ditch some of the lame cameos (except the golfers, they were great) and it probably works better. But I went in with 1 star expectations and was surprised at how many laughs there were. It's Happy Gilmore 2 - a sequel to a 30 year old movie. Of course it wasn't going to hit like the first one did.

What made the first movie funny wasn't just that Happy was punching people, but the lead up to it. Stuff like fighting Bob Barker had a pretty good lead up to it, where you saw Happy resisting the urge to punch him, but he eventually gives in. There was a real zaninness to it. The cast also worked in synergy, Shooter, Chubs, and Virginia all navigating Gilmore's rage.
In the new movie, it was just...hey Happy you remember being angry, well your sons are angry too! Let's all hit stuff. Sandler has really lost the ability to create and showcase the funny side characters that made his first movies great.

I heard this new war the worlds screen only movie with ice cube is so ####ing bad that I just have to watch it.
I made it exactly 6 minutes. I couldn’t even hate watch it. So, so bad. And my god the quick cut editing. I hate the tiktok generation! Why does every movie have to have 15 cuts every 3s?

I saw a Tiktok that said they used footage from the Ft Mac fire in the movie and just badly CGI'd aliens into the background.

You're better than me, made it 30 seconds into the preview that plays when you hover over title and looked like the whole movie was a zoom call.

There's no way I will ever dedicate even 5 minutes to watching schlock like that, but the reddit thread is full of people who watched the whole thing and it's a pretty entertaining read
