I'll be frank. I just don't get it from the Avs point of view.
It seems like it's just a pure bet for that NYI pick to be really high.
If that doesn't happen, the return just doesn't seem very good.

It seems OK for just Marner, but then you have Beniers in there too. Wacky stuff.

I don't see a huge difference.

Well that's because I think I made a cruddy deal to start! Though I think that was last off-season so I was making the same bet - that the Avs pick would be high.

Oh I understand that's your plan.
But to be clear, that was never my intention last year, at least until part way through the season it became clear I was out of it.
But i didn't enter the season trying to drive down the value of my pick.

I traded him last off-season because I simply couldn't afford to keep him.

Anyways I'm utterly fascinated to see how things play out this year for you.
