I am sure that Dube was instructed not to talk about it to anyone except to deny any wrongdoing.

I don't know why some people are so against due process before going straight to cancelling someone. Take Jonah Gadjovich for example. He was falsely identified in the HC settlement as one of the accused and it turns out he wasn't even in the room. If he was just straight up cancelled based on just an accusation, he would have unfairly lost his NHL career over it.

People who suspect they are going to have criminal charges laid against them likely DO have mental health concerns.

Why would it have to be an "excuse"?

It wouldn't be an excuse, it would be true. It's just that some people are hating on the Flames for their presser that said that they were putting him on leave for mental health reasons. It's likely that they didn't know any more than the rest of us, because, as pointed out above, his lawyer would have instructed him not to tell them anything about the sexual assault investigation.

Looks like the judge’s decision comes in tomorrow on the case.

With Perry and Kane gone, the Oilers are way below their dirtbag quotas.

If there's a non-guilty verdict, I could 100% see the Oilers signing Carter Hart to start playing for them following the All-Star break.

If he's not guilty I could see them signing Carter Hart by Friday

Public relations nightmare for sure, but if they are all found not guilty as we expect, don't they have the right to earn a living in their profession?

I wouldn't be surprised even if they were found not guilty that the NHL would suspend them for one season anyway.

The Oilers don't need to worry as much about the PR fallouts since the local (and some national) media carry water for the organization.

The NHL is a privilege, not a right. Nobody is saying they can't work.

Based on what grounds? The NHLPA would file a grievance immediately.

The Oilers don't care about PR. They hired Bowman FFS.

What a shame that would have been. He would never have been able to beat the wheels off of Darnell Nurse.

Not sure how you can make a post about a "right to earn a living" and acknowledge there is also a "Public relations nightmare".

Professional sports organization rely very much on their reputation in the public. Regardless of whether these guys are guilty, they certainly did not come across as people who treat women with any respect.

These players have no right to play on an NHL team. Teams 100% have the right to not hire them for character issues or damage it might cause to their own reputation.

I assume the standard NHL contract has a morality clause of sorts.

I recall in the NFL the Steelers Big Ben was suspended by his team for multiple games even though he was never tried.

These players weren’t in the NHL / On a team when it occurred

I can’t see any way the NHL could suspend them.

The other factor that will play into this is, none of these players are actually very good. Some of them have barely played or stopped playing.
So is an NHL team going to take the PR risk for a player that is basically replacement level?

Carter Hart is probably the most capable but even he was OK at best, and hasn't played since mid-way through the 2023-2024 season.

I just don't see a team thinking the benefit outweights the negatives.

These guys can all go play in the KHL.
