Pretty much all Vietnamese restaurants are still under $20. A Pho with a beer is right around $20. A sub with a pop is well under $20. Vermicelli bowl $15 to $20.

Pho. Vermicelli. Shawarma. Fried chicken. Subs. Burgers. Lots of options for a lunch under $20.
Fast food has become expensive. But a place that relies almost entirely on beef is going to have to jack up prices even more than others.
It's like fish. Fish and chips used to be a cheap meal out. But Joey's Only saw the writing on the wall with the relentlessly rising cost of fish, and pivoted to tacos and poutine when they rebranded as Joey's and then Streats.

I just make my own philly cheesesteaks.
Recipe (serves 4)
Put 2 sirloin steaks in freezer for 60 min to firm up.
Slice one whole onion thinly, and cut one whole red pepper into slices.
Heat the onion and peppers in a pan with olive oil, salt and pepper and cook on medium-low until caramelized (30 min)
Take beef out of freezer. It should be firm but not solid.
Cut beef into very thin slices (easier because it's half-frozen) and spread on a large chopping board.
Pat beef slices dry with paper towel. THIS IS ESSENTIAL TO GET A SEAR.
Generously season beef with salt and pepper.
Heat canola oil in a pan at high heat (8/10). Turn on hood fan.
Sear the beef in batches, ensuring that the pan is not crowded. The meat should be in one layer, not piled in.
Prepare 4 sub buns by cutting them open and spreading cheese whiz on them (you can use real cheese but it won't be the same).
Fill each bun with a portion of the seared beef and another of the onions and peppers.
Cut each bun in half.
Eat with a ready supply of paper towels.

So gave it a try today.. it's decent, tried the medium hotness and would say that's not very spicy but the flavour was there.. not sure I really love the flavour, it's fine but not something I'd seek out. Chicken was decently done too, wasn't dried out for tenders that big, and the breading wasn't excessive, right at a good level. And I did quite like the fries.
I get the feeling that ordering hotter will just increase the heat but won't change the flavour (which is sometimes the case, sometimes the hotter ones are far tastier) but will try it hotter at some point I'm sure.
6.5/10
