my vizio P from 2018 is dying, so I need a new tv, but, I don't want to spend a ton, we just bought new couches. Is it true that a tv in 2025 with a 7.5 on rtings will be objectively better than a 7.9 from 2018?

looknig at this tv https://www.costco.ca/hisense-65%22-...000271431.html

My opinion is don't sweat the ratings, especially because I believe RTings updates their rating system over time so it's apples and oranges. Look at specific things about TVs that you care about (like viewing angle, glare reduction, HDR quality, input lag, etc), compare the actual test results of those and use that to decide.

I got a hisense for my dad, a good one, and I wouldn't do it again. The first panel we got had a really bad light bleed area and had to be returned, and 2 years later the replacement has a similar issue albeit not to the same degree. Meanwhile, the on board software is glitchy and the smart TV hardware is worthless. The latter isn't really a problem if you use Amazon fire tv sticks or Apple TV or etc., which I do, but it is noteworthy.

Picture quality exceeded the price point for a year and it still is a pretty good set overall, but I dunno, if it's a TV you use often I'd go a different direction personally.

Reviews look good.
This TV is incredible. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The picture is fantastic out of the box and the sound is fantastic for a TV. I haven't calibrated it yet, but it looks like the settings can be assigned to each HDMI input which will come in handy for gaming.

The only minor gripe is the feet are incredibly wide apart, too wide for the side table I was going to put it on until I get the wall mount installed. So it's sitting on the floor.

Basic TV or fashionable?

Fashionable and pricey, the "Samsung Wall" ones look like decent art, TV or monitor per your needs. Then even though it's more expensive, it doesn't feel like as much of a waste. I don't know if any other brands recently started creating super flat TVs like that other than Samsung in that size.

If a normal TV, IMO most TV will be fine to roll the dice on at 30" to be used as a moderate monitor. At that point though, why not just buy a 24" USB monitor? More useful situations and if you don't need it in the end, easier to resell than a 30" TV.

In the market for a new 65" TV and looking for some recommendations. It looks like the new models of Samsung, Sony and LG are out and some of the previous years models are on sale.

The 2 models I'm currently considering are the 65" Samsung S90D ($1898 at Amazon) and the LG C4 ($1798 on Amazon)

Anyone have thoughts/opinions on these 2 TV's or has another recommendation that I'm missing? I know Rtings is pretty high on the S90D and that's a pretty good deal for sure.

Late reply but the LG C range has been great for a few generations now. Can't go wrong. I'd also trust anything Rtings say, and both my last TVs have been Samsungs.

I have a 65" S90D in my spare room. Great TV quality. I'd recommend it. Picture quality is amazing.
I'm actually looking at getting another one in 77" to replace my main panel in my basement.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the replies. I ended up going with that 65" Sammy S90D for $1898 from Amazon. Couldn't pass up that price for a mid- high end OLED. Glad I pulled the trigger because shortly after they jacked the price back up to $3398. lol Will be getting it set up this weekend, I think it should suit my needs very well
