Basically made a couple moves to free up some cap space this year and also get out of the AP contract next season (if he needs to be bought out). Carrier has a 88DF which he love to have on the 3rd pairing as he can play big PK minutes as well. Colton from the earlier trade is just a bottom 6 player to add some depth.

Wild trade Cutter Gauthier to Philly for a 1st and 2nd. If the 1st ends up a lotto pick the 2nd goes back to Philly.

Probably not a great deal for me, but i have a glut of forwards that will graduate next year, and of that group Gauthier is the guy I don't like. I didn't like him when I drafted him, he fell to me. I think he's a fine player but don't like the guy. So he's the odd man out.

I think the 2026 1st is strong and already hard to get picks because they are concentrated with a few teams. So wanted to get another one now as I don't think it's going to get any easier to get them.

He was in an excellent position to do something like this and we are 100% OK with it. All other similar D on the market cost a 1st +. We like the timing of the acquisition and add a top player and Grant maximizes a short return.

Bottom line…we pay 1st + for a D not as good or get Hedman. Take away the new UFA stuff we get the best D on the market for less than all others.

That’s how I see it.

Signing him for a max contract and flipping him within the day to get an additional 1st. Exceptional work by Minnesota though!

I was the other team offering max value. Grant did good but we ultimately got the guy we wanted and had $ dedicated for. That 2027 1st will be the last one in that round.

Any thoughts on if we should add who bids on each player? In this situation I'm not sure who made the offer, but anyone who reviews the bids can see who all bid and if someone bids on a player than they end up with, they can make an offer as they know who was interested. Does this give some a competitive advantage???

If I got Hedman, I would not know who bid on him and therefore wouldn't know who to approach. Not a huge deal, just a thought that it could be listed all teams who bid, maybe leave out how much though. What does everyone think on this?

One negative I can think of:
Let's say I bid on and missed out on Hedman.
Maybe I don't want anyone to know that I missed out on him. Someone else who also missed out could then look at my cap, knowing that I'll probably bid on a D in the next batch, and adjust their offer accordingly.
The less info people have, the better.
Related: I wish Grant had put Hedman on the block though.
Unrelated: I'm still waiting for Pat to send me McBarface.

That does make sense too. It's not a big deal and if only 1 person has access, then probably not worth the change

The reason why I moved on the deal was because Dave was highly motivated and i was slightly concerned with more time, he make take it off the table. Sometimes when you get your price you act.

But I wonder if I missed out on a better deal?
