Players who play his style decline fast. I'm just going based off history. Most players decline once they get into their mid 30s, especially ones who play a physical brand of hockey.
One of the insiders here said we didn't ask him to waive at the deadline. So I don't know why people freak out at the possibility of asking him. But if we did ask since then and he said no, then fine.
I know people preach loyalty but this isn't a retirement home. We need to make tough decisions that sometimes a player might not like. Like when Florida traded Huberdeau and upset him. Yet, they are now seen as the most successfully run front office in the league.
You have to take the emotion out of it. We have a hockey team to run.
So, by this logic the Panthers should let Ekblad walk as well as Marchand.
It will be interesting to see if the ‘ most successfully run front office in the league’ does that.

I mean all respect to royale but I doubt he’d know if Kadri was asked to waive privately or not. I don’t think anyone is freaking out about asking him to waive it is more the the incessant whining that Kadri is still on the team
I would. If we dont do it, someone else certainly will for a 1st. I think the question is more of why they would want to help us if they were really giving out a 1st to rid themselves of Kane.

No, you get rid of players who have little value to you, for assets you need. We are in a much different position than the Panthers were at the time.
The Panthers needed some players to help make them a contender, and Tkachuk fit that. Even if it pissed off Huberdeau. The Flames are in rebuild mode and need to be getting the most value they can out of any aging assets. Especially when said aging assets will be good for another year or 2 and actively hurting our draft position next year.
This isn't specifically a Kadri thing. If Coleman, or Backlund are worth anything good you trade them as well. Just my opinion and I know lots disagree.

Because if he has stated he doesn’t want to go and you know that there is no point in asking
Is there any truth to Kadri being interested in waiving back to Toronto as his only destination? If so, although I doubt it, would Treliving sell the farm and future for Kadri (no retention) + Raz (50% retained)?
Cowen + Niemela + 1st 2027 + 1st 2029
+ cap dumps (Jarnkrok and Reeves)?

Easily take a 1st and Kane. Let Kane play until the trade deadline and trade him for even more. Good chance he has a big year because he will be looking for one last payday. Too bad we are probably on his no trade list.

The Flames won’t trade them all. If that’s your expectation, you’re only setting yourself up for disappointment. Clearly Conroy/Iginla/Nonis/Maloney/Pacal and their thousands of NHL games playing and managing experience value having veteran experience in the line up.
Probably the entire draft class TBay traded for him all those moons ago; he never even came close to living up to that cost but it’s likely a main reason why there is still some fascination around the player. I really do think he’d look right at home in Florida though.
I really liked him in Nashville. Not sure if it's the injuries or what but he hasn't been the same since. But if you can get that version of him then yeah, any team would want him.
If the McDavid is legitimately leaving the Oilers, the Oilers 2027 1st could have massive, massive value. The team will be old garbage without McDavid to do the heavy lifting, blessed with the Oilers lottery luck. DuPont with the Oilers pick would be the greatest outcome possible.

So would I if the Oilers unprotected 2027 1st was on the table. If McDavid leaves, that could end up being a lottery pick.
Then you could always do what San Jose did with Kane. Keep a close eye on him and wait for him to do something that breaches his contract or is detrimental to the team, and terminate his contract.

Rossi would be my preferred if the potential available RFA’s. Obviously McTavish would be the dream but no word he could be had. Of Rossi, Byram, Peterka, I would most want the flames to acquire Rossi.
I would give up Frost + 18 to make it happen especially if Andersson can be flipped to the Jackets or Habs for 14 or 16 as a base

Rumour is Vancouver offered 15th overall + roster player.
I wonder who that roster player was because that doesn't seem like bad value to Minnesota (unless that roster player was a dud).
Rossi is undersized, undeniably, at 5'9" and 182 lbs. He has managed to do this:
24/25: 24G, 36A, 60PTS, 82 GP
23/24: 21G, 19A, 40PTS, 82 GP
22/23: 0G, 1A, 1PTS, 19 GP
Michael Russo has said Guerin is wanting a player who can replace Rossi's 55-60 points, so I'd guess Vancouver wasn't bringing that to the table. Looking at Vancouver, I feel like the only two players that somewhat fit that are Garland and Hoglander, and maybe Chytil?
Calgary also doesn't have a stand out player that fits the bill. Sharangovich's down year probably makes him a no, Farabee and Frost are both coming off down years...would Minnesota do Zary? Would the Flames do Zary - I'm not sure they would.
Minnesota is likely looking to fill two roster spots up front this Summer (with the subtraction of Rossi). I wonder if the Flames couldn't get Minnesota to bite on a quantity for quality? Frost + Farabee + 32nd? Add in the 54th? Hard to see an exact fit with Calgary…that’s seemingly overrating Rossi on my end
I feel like Minnesota and Buffalo could be pretty good trade partners...
