They changed Fort Bragg back, but now it's named after of a WWII paratrooper who was a decorated soldier, but hardly worth such a huge honour. Gotta placate the racist base though.

And conservatives are defending the renaming of the Navy ship because Milk was supposedly a pedophile who had sex with a 16-year-old. I can't find solid proof that he did but back then, when being gay often meant getting disowned, arrested, or even killed, young men and boys would seek out older men who were out. It's hard to get that across to them though.

The Iron Dome can intercept target projectiles to a maximum of about 22,000 feet.

In order to intercept ICBMs, a US missile defense shield would probably need to intercept them in outer space.

It's like saying "well, I saw my neighbour in his yard playing catch with his kid, and if he can catch a baseball, surely I can catch a volkswagen bus dropped from an airplane." WTF are you talking about?

Are they going to throw away their Led Zeppelin records too? Jimmy Page raped 14 year old girls.

The US is a massive country mostly worried about ICBM:s and possibly missiles fired from submarines by near-peer opponents.
It only has to protect a small part of Miami though, the bit where Taco lives, who cares if Bismark gets nuked?

Well at least it may be enough to protect my house then, but it won’t matter as I want out of here.

Just don't move to Bismarck, or anywhere else in flyover country. It definitely won't protect that.

Why is the world so dumb?

Not to mention that Israel was attacked by missiles routinely, like sometimes getting hundreds in a year. Investing in that made a lot of sense.

The returns Canada gets for a "dome" protection system for that amount of money isn't worth it.

I think China has the right idea with this. You just make tens of thousands of small drones. Park them strategically, and fit with small, controllable and non combustible explosive devices. Then, if there is a chance of incoming missiles, you literally send up a blanket in the sky to intercept them.

Home grown and cheap.

I always thought the "Bloom County" idea of sewing together individual one dollar bills forming a net over the country made more sense

Probably cost less. I think I saw 175 Billion as a rough estimate.

Bill the Cat should have won on write in votes when he ran.

Most things are possible, but we don't do a lot of them because they are not practical. Like using nuclear bombs to create a waterway from the Yukon to the US. People have ideas. It doesn't mean we should do them.
What about 'States' Rights' tho? Shouldn't each state be Responsible for building their own Golden Dome? Why should the Federal Government have to Dome the entire Country?

Quick Googling.
Area of lower 48 states = 3.1 million square miles
or 8.6 x 10^13 square feet

Area of a $1 bill = 6.2" x 2.6" = ~0.11 ft^2

So it'd take 7.8 X 10^14 one dollar bills to cover the US with a flat sheet.
Assuming a 4:1 ratio for a dome (similar to a circle vs sphere), you get
3.1 x 10^15 dollar bills

or

$3.1 Quintillion
And that's just for the raw materials. The labour cost for that much sewing would be astronomical.

Pretty clear example why Christfascists need to be shot down immediately, and not entertain their ideas around book banning. "Oh, ya, ok, I see that sounds reasonable I guess" is how you end up where the US is. Stop giving them inches.
Rolling Stone - "‘F-ck Off, Nazi Dickheads’"

Quote:
Since this tip line seems most likely to target providers and programs helping trans youth with noninvasive therapies — even as the Trump administration threatens to remove funding — people are onrushing the line with incredibly demeaning and foul-mouthed comments, according to two sources familiar with the matter and a recording shared with Rolling Stone.
Quote:
One caller tells this magazine that they called the hotline so that they could recommend that the second Trump administration “eat my entire #######.”

An audio file shared with Rolling Stone featured a gay former federal employee, who requested anonymity, simply screaming into the federal tip line: “#### off, Nazi dickheads!”

The other source familiar with the matter says that “more than a dozen” of their friends and advocates they know in pro-LGBTQ+ political circles were actively crashing the FBI tip line with angry remarks or notes of protest denouncing the administration’s targeting of trans Americans and demonization of trans health care.

Trump team picks 22 year old, one year out of college and with no apparent national security expertise, Thomas Fugate is the Department of Homeland Security official tasked with overseeing the government’s main hub for combating violent extremism.

It's a good thing they got rid of DEI so unqualified people no longer get jobs they shouldn't have.
