This is the type of deal that Tre didn't have the balls to sign. You have to know what you have in the player and Conroy can do that very well.

Also coronato owes Fujita a thank you card for three next 7 years

Great deal. Hopefully Wolf and Zary are next. Would love for both to sign long term as well but I assume only Wolf will get that.

I think Zary will get a 2 year bridge deal to see how he does. If he stays healthy and gets the opportunity, I really think Zary can be a solid 2nd line centre.

I think Wolf will cost more and could be tougher to get a deal done for longer than 6 years. Simply because he’s already 24 so a 7-8 year deal will take him to 31-32. I think his camp will prefer to be signed to 29 so he has a shot at another long term contract in his prime.

My guesses:

Zary - $3.5 million AAV for 2 years
Wolf - $7.5 million AAV for 6 years

I hope both these players sign longer deals but that’s what I’m expecting.

In a way it's funny that he now makes mor than Weegar and his contract is only a year longer than Weegs. As much as people have turned on Treliving...that Weegar deal was a great piece of business.

As for Coronato, with where the Cap should go, I think this is going the be the price for the production he put up last year. I think there is room for him to grow into a consistent 30 goal guy with 40 upside. So no complaints about this deal today, and hopefully the talk in 2032 is do we really want to extend a Winger who's about to turn 30 long term for 16 million a year.

Seems like a solid deal for both parties, especially with the salary cap expected to rise—contracts will naturally follow suit. I like that we secured the kid long-term. He has all the tools to become a reliable 25-35 goal scorer with 60 points, especially if given the right opportunities in a top 6 role and some PP. And if we can ever land a top-tier playmaking/driving forward to complement his play, he could maybe push into the 40-goal range a couple times

Good analysis but your math on Wolf is incorrect. Wolf has another year on his current deal, his next contract will start at age 25, 7-8 years would be 32-33.

I don't think you're getting Wolf for $7.5mil AAV even at 6 years. I hope they just pay what it takes to go 8 years, personally. I'm very comfortable with his trajectory at this point that I believe we have a top 5 goaltender in the NHL for years to come, and every well could end up have the best goalie in the league if he keeps improving.

To get him 7 or 8 years you're likely looking at $9.5-$11mil a year and I'd happily do that. Put the big money where it counts and fill out the rest of the roster. Don't save $2mil AAV a year on a star goalie by going shorter years just to spend that $2mil on depth.

Maybe not. He's from the West coast of the USA. Seems like it's the guys from the north east area of the USA who are most attached to the hockey system there. Wolf played in the WHL in Everett.

Wolf was also consistently passed over for the starting positions with team USA. Imo he'll be grateful that the Flames gave him such a good chance. They drafted him, when every other team passed and then moved him up to the AHL quickly.

Is this a hunch or have you seen something that suggests this? He is a UFA 2028, so that's when he would have full control. His next RFA contract will start 2026 (season after next).

He would have to force the Flames into a 2 year RFA deal to leave as soon as he has full control. With what he is now and looks to be on track to become that would go down as one of the biggest contract blunders in modern hockey history. And I haven't heard anything to suggest he is looking to bolt as soon as he has control like that to the point of forcing our hand that badly.

That's why I'm curious what you had heard.

Exactly. The whole "Americans don't want to play here" thing is overblown in my mind. Just Chucky didn't stay longer term and that was a Tre mistake compounded by him not getting along (allegedly) with Sutter.

No, no...no insider info.

I got a Wolf Jersey and usually when I get a named player's jersey that means that the player is gone within 6 months.

I have a pretty reliable track record with this sort of thing. I'm hoping it takes a dent, but it hasn't thus far.

I wouldn’t count on that. These guys are people more than players, and there’s still a few around who actually value and respect those who employ them and help them develop. I would say Coronato is one of those guys and perhaps Wolf is too. There are still athletes who value the community they are a part of and this impacts how they approach contracts. Guys like Wold and Coronato can always spend their post career lives on a beach in Hawaii, but I would wager Wolf is looking to sign long term right where he is.
