After the game against the ducks, I don’t think Suniev will get into the next game unless someone is nursing an injury. Everyone looked really good.

What’s a good nickname the guys can call him? “Sunny?” Maybe “Sunshine?”

Here are the first 1-2 seasons of recent Flames forward prospects since 2018-19:
Pelletier 4G in 37GP.
Zary 14G in 63GP. That's the best case scenario.
Pospisil 8G in 63GP.
Honzek 0G in 5GP.
Klapka 4G in 29GP.
Kerins 0G in 5GP.
Duehr 7G in 28GP.
Ruzicka 5G in 31GP.
Schwindt 0G in 7GP.
Phillips 1G in 30GP.
Dube 1G in 25GP.
Mangiapane 8G in 54GP.
Hathaway 1G in 40GP.
My point is that it's highly unlikely that Suniev goes on a scoring tear right out of the gate.
|
Hey, I understand that it’s unlikely and I appreciate you finding the stats to prove your point. My point was that it couldn’t hurt putting him in. Does he go on a tear? Unlikely.
I like Sharangovich, but he doesn’t have it this year. Whether that’s an injury (hopefully), or something else. Maybe slide Suniev in for a game instead.
We’re a long shot to make the playoffs, even with the win tonight, so why not give it a shot? Remember Baertschi getting called up and scoring three goals in five games? Again, it’s unlikely that Suniev does that, but it’s worth a shot when we have a lot of issues finishing chances

I would be putting Suniev in for Farabee when the time comes. Putting Suniev with Backlund and Coleman makes a lot of sense and Farabee has really struggled.

Farabee is doing so much right.
The puck just isn't going in when he's on the ice.
But he's great on the forecheck, drives the net better than anyone on the team, blocks shots, and keeps plays alive on the cycle.
In the details of the game he's one of the team's best forwards right now.
Nowhere near my scratch list.

100%
I can't believe the criticism he is getting here. He is doing a lot of things right, he is working hard, he's generating chances. The Backlund line has looked the best it's looked in weeks, with him on it.
But the puck isn't going in the net. He was struggling in Philly in a system and under a coach, that wasn't working for him. Now he is adjusting to a new team. Give it time - I expect he will be much better next year. But fans are so incredibly impatient.

And maybe they don't see the whole game unfolding and are focused on counting stats only?

Pretty sure most people here are on the same page even though comments seem that we aren't.
Our existing lineup can't score. So what is the downside of putting Suniev in (or other players although callups are an issue). They struggle to score too?
Connie saying its up to the coach and we will see should have been "we are going to find an opportunity for him to play down the stretch at some point"

His goal song can be “Sunny days, sweeping the clouds away.”
Other possibilities:
"You Are My Sunshine, My Only Sunshine."
"Don't Steal My Sunshine" - Len
"Sunshine on My Shoulder Makes Me Happy" - John Denver
"Here Comes the Sun" - Beatles
"Black Hole Sun" - Soundgarden
