If only we had some inside information on CP or even a hint to what could come??
Frank Seravalli saying it’s Calgary,
Carter King (University of Denver)
King attended Flames development last summer.
He may well be King of the Class of undrafted free agents for 2025. The two-time NCAA national champion at Denver is also team captain. King checks so many boxes – and what he might lack in size (5-foot-10), he makes up for in compete, character and class. King is a consistent scorer, setting a new career-high in goals (18) at Denver, where he’s also been nominated for NCHC defensive forward of the year. It sounds like the Calgary Flames are one team interested in the Calgary kid. He’s already 23, so he could only sign a one-year, entry-level deal.

Wouldn't be surprised. It'll be like cap circumvention. You know the millisecond the Flames are in a position to do it like Edmonton and Vegas do every 5 minutes, is the day they will finally enforce it for the first time.

Per Dreger on Barn Burner today, Flames (and some other teams with space like Columbus) are ready to be copy cats and try throwing around offer sheets this summer. He also spoke specifically about Knies saying the Leafs won't let anyone take Knies under any circumstances. It sounded a bit like a Leafs PR job, too emphatic in my opinion, like they desperately want everyone to stay away.

Calgary should not gambling giving up first round picks.

On the other hand, an offer sheet in the Broberg or Holloway range could be a very good use of an asset. I agree they shouldn't be using first-round picks.

If jets don't win the cup I wonder if a hockey deal around vikardi for Andersen?

Please, please no offer sheets that risk a first round pick. Don’t think there are any RFAs this year that are worth the risk of giving up a McKenna lottery ticket.

Is Parekh really mobile? He looks like he has an elite shot and vision but I don’t think he has Hughes and Makar’s mobility especially when defending. From why I’ve seen, he’s like Fox but with a better shot.

Could work. He would fit in well with their need.
Would also wonder if Detroit could be a good fit. If they miss the playoffs again, I think desperation could kick in. Would be interested to build some kind of trade around Andersson for Danielson + 1st round pick. The Avs trading Ritchie has me wanting Conroy to pull off a big futures trade like that for Andersson. Danielson has been an untouchable prospect for Detroit since they drafted him. Six months ago, many would have said Ritchie could not be had - but he was traded along with a 1st round pick for a rental.

This year's ceiling for an offer sheet that doesn't cost a 1st is $4.58M. As long as the team keeps the offer under that number, it is not an issue. As the cap goes up, that number goes up too.
The only RFA I would consider an offer sheet that costs a 1st+ is Byram... and I certainly wouldn't do that this summer simply because that 2026 1st has too much potential.
Knies is an interesting target but I think if you offer him $4.5M, the Leafs will match.
Bourque is a viable target as I do not think the Stars can match $3M for him and that is fair value for a rookie with his numbers to see what he can do with a bigger role.
I am not sure what other targets are out there that would cost a 2nd or less where the other team wouldn't simply match.

This team is starting to give off Nashville vibes, they (Nashville) misread what they were and now they might be trending towards chasing mediocrity. Fortunately for them the mask was pulled off and everyone can see who they are, which will likely result in them having a chance to draft a high end talent. The problem is they are likely to try to justify their actions in signing veterans and that may keep them from acquiring a critical mass of young talent.
When Conroy brought in Farabee and Frost he appeared to placate the veteran voices, and draw in some reinforcements in an effort to catch a playoff berth. It’s understandable, but as a fan I’ve seen this script before and it has always ended the same. My hope for a brighter future is that Conroy has the fortitude to avoid bringing in more league average types to bolster what is at best a veteran laden, mediocre team. There are a few nice pieces, Coronato, Zary, Wolf, but I bet a jovial locker room won’t be enough to keep them in the fold if they’re looking at a of future facing teams who are acquiring waves of skilled, fast players.
Guys like Kadri, Coleman, Huberdeau, etc. are great, but they don’t add value in top line roles. The best way to acquire these types is through the draft and the Flames had the best chance at doing this in the current year and the next. This year they are counting on fortune dropping someone in their lap, though next year has some interesting possibilities. I’m not advocating for a tank, but if Conroy can’t resist the urge to bolster a veteran roster struggling to achieve mediocrity we’ll likely be on this same ride a decade from now.

Younger than Stamkos, but the prospect of paying a soon to be 26 year Frost to give you 30-40 points on the second line doesn’t excite me. Farabee was trending up, but injury derailed him. I don’t see these guys adding a ton of value, they are league average players, and that isn’t bad, it’s just not good when you consider the talent being added in the west. Maybe something changes for them at 27-28 years old, but that sounds more of hope than likelihood.

Philly gave Frost away for the privilege of getting to pay Farabee in future years.
They had seen enough of both. These arent 'young' players. 90% chance they are what they are.
Now i have zero issue with the Flames taking a chance on them, but if these are example of where we are going.... ugh. These are fine low risk darts to throw and pray, but they better not be part of the master plan
