I did not see that. Well shoot, this is why it's important not to throw away the plan to chase WC 2 spot.
Build through the draft for next few years, sign Makar in 2027 to a 7 year deal, graduate draft picks and compete for 2027/2028
If playoffs happen next 2 seasons then its a bonus

Pretty sure someone posted his numbers with and without MacKinnon and it wasn't good.
Guess we will see how he fits in Dallas. Also would be interesting to hear why he didn't want to play in Carolina. They seems to always have a good team, but have trouble keeping players of this caliber.

Pretty sure the stats show that Makar and MacKinnon are pretty dependent on each other and not nearly as good with anyone else.

Google says he's: 24 goals, 34 assists and a plus-minus of +20 in 58 games without MacKinnon in his career. So pretty much a point a game.

Jamie Benn was 27 and also considered a top 5 or 10 premier forward in the game when he signed his current deal. How many prime years do they think they get out of Rantanen? This looks like a deal that will be considered an anchor in 2-3 years tops

I honestly wouldn’t be totally crushed if I was the canes. Sucks they didn’t get him extended but some powerhouse teams this year and they have lots of draft capital for off season additions via trade or draft. Roll the dice and see what they can do this year while getting better next year. Not the worst.
