GGG nailed it. This is crap.
GST cut on Christmas trees? Do Christmas trees have positive externalities? Why is there no GST holiday on Menorahs? How about atheists, what do we get? Why can I avoid GST by buying premixed drinks but if I buy hard liquor and make my own cocktails I still pay it? These are exactly the kind of economic distortions a free-market society wants to avoid.
And of course, GST cuts preferentially help people who spend more. Children's toys? 5% discount doesn't help a low-income parent give their child a significantly better Christmas but for a wealthy family 5% off their Christmas gifts could add up to substantial chunk of change (in absolute terms).
It's poor use of the government's fiscal capacity and real fiscal conservatives should be tearing them to shreds for it.

Atheists don't celebrate Christmas? My kids are going to be disappointed going forward when I cancel their presents.

Speaking of faces. Is it me or does Freelund always look like she's either just starting smelling someone else's foul release of body gasses, or she's trying her best to hold in an extra 4 cubic feet of her own. The poor woman always looks like she's in some form of discomfort.

Still waiting on you to admit the chud graph is pablum for chuds. You know, the original goalposts.
I'll gladly discuss the next point when you're ready.

Some do, some don't. But a GST exemption on Christmas trees is fundamentally Christian favouritism.

Also the eligibility requirements for the cheque are a huge FU and to the unemployed, to the disabled, to students. Tying benefits to employment when employment is not a right is regressive to me.

I don’t understand what you’re trying to argue here (and judging by your responses, I’m not sure you do either).
Are you trying to argue that the data is inaccurate? It’s not. Are you trying to argue that the gap hasn’t widened significantly since 2015? It has. Are you trying to argue Trudeau hasn’t exacerbated the widening gap? I think you’d have to be a huge Trudeau bootlicker to argue that.
Are you trying to argue and have me admit that there are factors beyond Trudeau that affect the economy and how much that gap has widened? Well duh, that’s obvious. But that’s my biggest criticism of Trudeau. He clearly doesn’t have a grasp of what drives the Canadian economy, and instead of supporting them or getting out of the way and letting industries do their thing, he seems hell bent on handcuffing them.

Has it dawned on you (yet) that it wasn't simply the election of Trudeau that caused the widening of the gap (as the chud graph gaslights), and it was far more complicated, macroeconomic factors that started a year before that?
When you're ready.

Did you not read my post where I literally said that? And did you skip my post where I addressed your point on oil prices? Because you conveniently ignored that.
Ready whenever you are.

I invite you to say "the graph is misleading". Because partisan hackery usually is.

Well since I believe that Trudeau has had an impact (not the ONLY impact, but an impact), I wouldn’t say it’s more misleading than anytime other economic or scientific data is shown. If your bar for correlation to causation is 100% or it’s classified as “misleading”, then I’m not sure how you could ever look at any graphs and not think they’re misleading.
I invite you to address my point about how oil price (in Canadian dollars) is back to where it was pre-2014 crash, but the gap is still widening.

That's a whole lot of words without saying anything. I do like your attempt to have a graph with Trudeau's face as scientific data though.

Except that really is not the case anymore in society. Christmas is increasingly being viewed as a secular holiday that is celebrated by the masses and across all cultures in North America. The celebration is rooted differently for different people though. An Angus Reid poll in 2019 found that 10% of Canadians view the holiday as primarily religious and this is down from 27% in 1988. Despite differing religions and cultures, 82% of Canadians prefer to call the season "Christmas." 92% of Canadians said they would be celebrating Christmas. 77% of Canadians set up a Christmas tree as part of the holiday traditions.
You making this out to be far more divisive and exclusive than it actually is.

If you want me to admit that something GullFoss posted is misleading, I’m happy to oblige. I’m sure it was misleading.
Now can you stop Houdini’ing around the questions I’ve asked you? Pretty please?

I'm sure the 23% of Canadians who are not getting a benefit from that particular policy will appreciate that it's because they're not participating in something primarily commercial rather than something primarily religious, even though it's both.
