I agree that the death and destruction was 100% pointless. Russia already had de facto control of parts of Eastern Ukraine prior to the war. They pushed forward and got pushed back. Now things essentially go back to where they started.
All so Putin can have his last gasps at empire. In reality, Russia has a quickly contracting population, military, and ability to control its periphery. For example, it's fairly easy to control central Asia when you've got 100,000,000 ethnic Russians and unlimited amounts of Soviet weaponry to draw from. Not as easy when you've got half that population with insufficient weapons.

Things escalated into all out war in 2014.
Russia has always promoted themselves as liberators. They get to continue doing that by having what is basically a regional Russian government in Donetsk and Luhansk. It's possible that after declaring "independence" that Donetsk and Luhansk request to join the Russian Federation. However, that's likely several years down the road, with Trump backing some farcical form of independence until the heat is off.

CNN was talking under/over performance as a percentage of the vote, not the actual number of votes. The democrats got a lower percentage pretty much everywhere. Trump got a higher percentage pretty much everywhere. In many cases by jurisdiction was just decimal points, but every few hundred votes swung adds up on a state level.

I have a little bit of an unpopular opinion but truly think these politicians talk a big game but nobody does true revolutionary changes these days. Democrats or Republicans, Liberals or Conservatives. Sometimes someone spends a bit too much, or enters an unnecessary war, but I do think most of them would mess up somewhere else equally if given an opportunity. So I do think Trump will speak rhetoric and piss people off royally but if people didn’t take his shtick so seriously, he wouldn’t have that much impact. If Kamala won she’d have her own area to f up. It’s no biggie five years down the road. For the record I don’t hold allegiances to any one side I just like when we go back and forth between parties every few years. Some balances are needed but nobody truly swings things from one side to another, so I don’t think it’s that a catastrophic situation they’re making it out to be.

Perhaps as it involves the US, but European countries not having some form of shared security if nuts.
Also, I'm not 100% sure NATO is toast.
Time will tell.

It’ll be one of the first things he does. And his administration will be filled with loyal MAGA lunatics, so there will be no one sane enough to talk him out of it this time.

Trump, after all the votes get counted - particularly California - ends up beating his overall votes from both 2016 (63 million) and 2020 (74 million),with about 76 million votes.
Not only do the democrats see their total votes drop from 81 million to 70ish million, but that translates into a drop of voter share from 51.3% to 48ish%.

Bernie nails it, but rings a little hollow considering he backed both Biden and Harris.

My takeaway from this is be openly left-wing if you're the Dems instead of Republican-lite. If you keep talking about how you will have republicans in your cabinet and how you will shoot people who enter your house, the people will just go for the real deal.

Exactly. They essentially recreated Trump's 2020 border plan, that they had previously called inhumane, to try to capture voters. The voters who want hardline immigration policies are always going to go for the party that continually promotes draconian immigration policies.

The president of the U.S. is not a god-emperor. Trump will bluster and threaten to reduce funds and deployments to NATO. But I have a hard time imagining the entire officer class of the U.S. military rolling over and acquiescing to their country’s departure from its core military alliance.

I recall the issue was that he wasn't happy with the other NATO members spending so little on their military and wanted them to buy more (mostly American) equipment.

The only good news is since they won, we don’t need to see them piss and moan about it being rigged and using whatever means available to try and overturn it, be it alternative elector slates, making objectionable plays and escalating things to a partisan Supreme Court, breaking whatever they think needs breaking to accomplish their end goal

- There won't be widespread allegations of voter fraud.
- There won't be political violence at the inauguration.
- By winning the popular vote you can say America actually chose DT rather than it being the electoral college f-ing people out of their vote.
- This will probably cool the rate of illegal immigration.
- Political late night comedy will have a wealth of material.
That's a crappy list compared to what the next 4 years are going to bring, but it's what I got.

Not...yet. It's obvious a large swath of the MAGA's want a king, an American King. Little doubt if they could make Trump King of the USA they'd do it.
