I don't have a lot of insight to offer here other than to point out the importance of recency bias.

The MSG rally and backlash on Kill Tony was likely more than the Trump camp expected. You'd think enough had happened so far, but the recency thing does stick. Reminds me of the 2015 Alberta election when Prentice had MLA's cross the floor and that video of rich grouchy old rich guys complaining about taxes came out. Next thing you know a bunch of idealistic wide eyed kids who ran as NDP candidates are in the legislature.
Give the voters a reason to say eff you in the lsst week and sometimes they will take you up on that.
We will see what happens on Tuesday.

I mean I get the thought, but it's just so ridiculous that all of the racism/misogyny/anti-gay and various other transgressions that happened before October 27 was worth staying on the fence for, but the last week was the final straw. I will say the Puerto Rico thing might be the only thing in the past eight years that could cost him votes, and ironically it wasn't even him that said it.

I'm predicting a very close Trump win that leads to multiple investigations that go on for a while as many have predicted.

Sometimes I almost wonder if Trump is pulling some giant troll job and seeing how terrible he can be and still get people to vote for him. But sadly I think what we see is what he is.

Trump is the same scumbag he is today that he was in 1980 that he was in 2016.
Not sure he has done anything different this last week that should sway anyone’s vote. If you rolled with him before this week you likely identify with some or all of his disgusting behaviour.

That is what I thought leading up to 2016. I didn't think he was seriously running a campaign and that he wanted to be President. It seemed like a troll job/publicity stunt.

If Harris loses, there won't be any investigations. They'll concede, have a peaceful transfer of power like normal, sane people. And then they'll move on and just try and figure out how to operate within a fascist dictatorship.

I don't think it was necessarily worse, this would have been entirely fine for a typical September week. But he needed a good final stretch to juice his own turnout. Not changing anyone's mind, just changing how committed people are to go through the effort of voting... you've got to spend that final stretch convincing people not just why you're better than your opponent, but why it's important to them that they vote for you.
If anything I think his final week is more likely to have juiced Harris's turnout, and Harris really honed in on messaging about the importance of the issues at stake. I can understand how someone in the MAGA sphere sees this as existential... but it's difficult to get into that reluctant Trump voter mindset, so who knows?

this last week feels like the interval between the last meal and the walk to the gallows.

even if Harris wins, following this race has been depressing as ####. I mean, I did have low expectations to begin with, but the fact that it's not only still very close, but that Donald has a legit chance of actually winning, is hard to stomach. In different times, you could just laugh at the US, but with the current geopolitical challenges, there's just too much at stake.

Something’s bothering me about Trump’s ‘secret’ comment. Everyone assumes he was referring to a contingent election, which may be the case. But he specifically said that the senate is in good shape and the house should be ok with their little secret. He was clearly talking about house, which doesn’t affect the presidential election. I can’t for the life of me think of how they could impact the house races in some underhanded, ‘secret’ way though. So maybe he was just spewing BS as usual.

I'm with you.
The Trump camp is such an incredible collection of freaks, idiots and fascists... In any normal country they would be the funny minority candidate people laugh at while the actual election is happening elsewhere.
But Trump promised the ultrarich massive tax cuts, so here we are.

I am pretty sure that Trump doesn't understand the difference between what an insane asylum is, and what it means when a migrant requests asylum. He literally thinks they are letting in insane people so that they can use American insane asylums or something.

He took such a hard veer from being a progressive over to the right. I'm not sure what happened there...

He did?? Honest to goodness, I don’t follow politics that much. He seems like a good liberal.. the fact that he cares about people. I find allot of new conservatives, just come across as disingenuous. Same with new liberals in some cases

Eh. There was some noise in 2016 about recounts, inquiries, and the like. There always is by the losing side in a close election, so it wouldn't be surprising to see that here too. Especially with very active voter suppression tactics being used.
