Hanley’s, I would keep Pelletier as the 13th forward and rotate him on the 4th line or when there is an injury

Anyone that wondered if he was a bust weren’t anywhere near reality. He was 2023 draft pick. Those people crazy.

Lomberg took his sparkplug spot. I felt that way when he was signed, if the flames feel Lomberg's attitude and work ethic will bring more value to a rebuilding flames squad then they project Pelletier could I'm fine with it.
Sends the right message to the younger guys, if your not good enough you will be cut. Contract status will not determine this roster.

I can understand waiving Pelletier but waiving him and keeping 8 dmen, one of which is Hanley is questionable IMO.

Disappointing that Pelletier hasn't done enough to avoid waivers. Likely not to amount to much if he knew he had to deliver this camp on a team that's rebuilding.

Perhaps teams were waiting to see what the Flames would do with him, makes sense from their side. It was no secret around the league that other guys out played Jacob.

Why burn an asset if there’s a chance the Flames put him on waivers.

The biggest head scratcher is keeping 8 D and Hanley over Pelletier though, I can’t explain that one. Seems super odd…

Guess we’ll see what happens.

5’9” 180 lbs bottom 6 wingers tend to get bounced around the league.

He’s been passed by Zary, Pospisil, Honzek, Klapka. You could argue Stromgren and Coronato as well. A year from now Basha and others may surpass him as well.

Other than being a first round pick, what has he done to separate himself?

Nothing , zilch this camp

The only outside argument is he was injured and need more time

I guess the Flames have no time to give

If Montreal wants to use a roster spot on a player that hasn’t shown much against other prospects in a youth tournament nor against prospect/nhlers in exhibition games, then be my guest.

Hanley is a depth blueliner who's been in the league for five straight years now, he's not great but he seems to be a good guy to keep around in a depth role. Pelletier hasn't shown to be NHL quality yet.

Pelts was training with Huberdeau throughout the summer.
Honzek was training with Pospisil the entire summer.

So can we get Huberdeau training with Pospisil next summer if he has another 50P season?

I honestly don't see Pelletier clearing waivers. Is it bad asset management? Maybe. At the same time are we really missing a guy like Valimaki right now?

You can like Pelletier as a person and for personal/sentimental reasons but he's done nothing to earn a spot on this team as a hockey player, and has been passed on the depth chart by wingers like Honzek and Klapka, who rightfully earned a spot over him.
Can't clamor over the idea of meritocracy and then exempt young players just because they're former first round picks.

Obviously the Flames are hoping he will clear so they can give him big minutes in the AHL to try to get his game back, because he probably won’t do that as the 13th forward. Big risk of losing him, but keeping him on the big club might not be much better if his development remains stalled.
