It's fun to share and I'm glad I'm able to do so as well, I hope the few bad apples don't ruin it for both diss and myself here as well.
Well, just you now. Dissentowner quit CP.

This was an insanely prescient post on Johnny's contract in 2016. Blows my mind how accurate Gaudreauvertime was

Point is, we did lose certainty here. In 6 years, we can attempt to outbid the market and hope he doesn't want to go back east. But there's a likelihood that in 6 years he'll be asking 10.5M+, and even if we match that it might not be enough.

Yes, Lewis Gross’ burner account was indeed right on the money.

Friedman on the 32 thoughts podcast on the Flames:

Conroy has a plan and it is to turn over his team a little bit
Stopped short of getting his young players getting manhandled by keeping some veterans

There are some players still in Calgary who have asked to be moved if it is a complete teardown
Conroy has said he wants to keep it quiet this summer as opposed to the craziness of the last couple of years
Conroy wants to start the year, see how it goes, and then decide what to do with the players.
Conroy has asked players to keep an open mind and see how this year goes.
Players have agreed

If someone makes a huge offer, things might change.

That's about as good as you could hope for the Flames' situation. Rebuild without making it a rebuild, respect the players who want to pivot, but be pragmatic about the change and Conroy will accomodate if it isn't working out.

Sounds like a people-first kind of GM. I like that.

I wonder which veterans asked to be moved. The most likely candidates are Coleman, Kadri, and Andersson. It would be interesting if it turned out as one of Backlund, or Weegar.

IMO, Conroy is walking the line perfectly here. I know many fans think that simply tearing it all down is the answer, but it is more complicated than that. He sees that, and he is trying to manage it. Also, he is communicating with the players to keep things under control.

It is a very difficult and delicate situation, but so far so good - I have a lot of faith in Conroy.

I mentioned it a few posts back, but I know for certain that Andersson and Coleman are part of the guys that want to go win/compete for a cup. I would put Huberdeau in this group too, but I doubt we get away from that contract.

Kadri isn't against a rebuild surprisingly enough, he likes it here but understands if Craig needs to move him to help. Doesn't want to go back to Toronto.

Backlund is happy here, wants to win a cup but also values his legacy as a Calgary Flame. This one is tricky.

Weegar is a surprise to me, I have to inquire more into this as I was under the impression that he wanted to rebuild here and welcomed being a leader. But it would appear that perhaps that changed.

He got us the new arena. His work here is done. Littlest Hobo like.

I understand not wanting to do a complete teardown...but if this is true then I think Coleman should have been moved this past offseason.

I'm not sure his value would have ever been higher than it would have coming off a 30 goal and 54 point season, and he turns 33 in 3 months, so he's not getting any younger.

Andersson I would have moved already, but I think you could argue his value could be just as high at this years trade deadline.

You're not wrong but I do think Coleman has changed his tune within the last month or so. With that said I think he'll still have good value, he's a solid 2-way/PK forward with cup pedigree.

I could see him being a deadline sell.

Thanks Royle.

It makes sense, I figured that most of the vets would be at least tempted to abandon ship. Especially since it looks like Calgary is going to be bad for the next 2-3 years.

Every player that signed here: Kadri, Huberdeau, Weegar, and Coleman thought he was signing with a contender.
