Might be insipid of Peel to post that but he also has the kind of following on the old tweet box that would possibly kick start some digging from reputable folk.

I can’t get the uncomfortable thought out of my head that by hoping JG is not dead we are actually hoping some other random person died. Thats kinda wierd.

Man. This would be incredibly heartbreaking and tragic if true. He was a special player and by all accounts a special person too.
One of my fondest memories of him was in game 3 of the 2nd round series against the Ducks in 2015. The Flames were struggling on the PP late to tie it up. Johnny takes matters into his own hands, walks in off the half boards, and rips a slapper top corner to tie it up. It was a special moment by a special player.
Hoping this turns out to be one weird(albeit sick) internet hoax.

Reminds me a lot of when Roy Halladay's plane crashed and a lot of people were hoping it was someone else flying it. Just a #### situation no matter how you slice it.

Not weird at all. We have a connection to gaudreau. We don't have a connection to some random person in NJ.
It's weird that people can't see that. We grieve for the people we know more than the people we don't because of our humanity not in spite of it.

I can’t get the image of Guy Gaudreau out of my head. You could tell how invested he was in family which was so evident by the images of him cheering every big goal on the Dad’s trip. Family was always first, and as a Dad this must be devastating. Still hoping this isn’t true.

Trying to think about this logically, would Johnny and his brother really be riding bikes at 8:30 the night before their sister’s wedding? Incredibly sad two people lost their lives and I also hope it’s not them, just seems like an unlikely scenario so I hope that’s the case

Favourite goal of his. I made an absolute racket.
Great celly, all smiles on the bench and "Turn Down for What" with the big cardboard cutouts of the top line's faces bumping. Great game.

Well it’s certainly wierd to me the guy sitting here thinking about it. We don’t have a connection to JG. We have a parasocial relationship with him. This isn’t hoping your best friend didn’t die. It’s two strangers, one of which we have developed a weird attachment because of the laundry he wore.
