One of my favorite things of the Olympics is witnessing the ability of humans to overcome and rise up. Biles with her mental health challenges from last Olympics and then her teammate Sunisa Lee with her kidney issues - both medaling! Bravo!

This 100%
A lot of the ugly part of America turned on Biles after her failures in 2020. Called her weak.
I hope she shoves these Golds down theirs throats.
Bravo Simone

Still kind of bums me out her legacy is being spoken of in the past tense, wasn't she like 16 in her breakout Rio Olympics? Meaning she's 24 now, this should be her apex Olympics.

Really hoping she can fully overcome her injuries and back to her old self in 2028, she'll still be in her 20s then.

Not trying to throw any fuel on the fire but it certainly didn't help perception when the Italian quit after a minute and a couple of punches.

That's 11 straight matches Tsitsipas has lost to Djokovic. Tons of mental scar tissue for the Greek.

She also apparently said "This is unjust" after the fight ended. I think this is purely speculation. It's hard to find footage from the Olympics (due to use of rights).

The Italian president (a woman) said this
Quote:

“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞’𝐬 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭.”

This isn't just a US/MAGA:Trump thing, unfortunately. Being gay is a crime in Algeria, where this athlete is from.

Khelif is not trans. This is evident because, according to the IOC, her passport lists her as female, which is something that the extraordinarily repressive Algerian laws would not allow if she were trans. She was, however, disqualified from the 2023 women’s world championships because tests showed she had XY chromosomes, which is possible for cis women with certain conditions. Khelif made it to the quarterfinals of the 2020 Olympics, where she was defeated by Kellie Harrington, without incident, and she has been boxing on the international circuit for years without any of her wins or defeats gaining much attention.
