Sad, just that much ego and you go and ruin a moment for your family who you know are in attendance.

The real question is, are you surprised?

Never with him, “face of the league” and probably the most entitled, boring and overall rude person I’ve run into in terms of pro players.
It’s embarrassing honestly, just zero sense of humbleness… I’ve never been this happy to see someone lose.

Yeah... thats going to be one you'll want a do-over on later.
Being humble is important. I think he took being in the finals for granted. It's a special thing and there's a real possibility he doesn't see it again.
You get to presented with one of the most prestigious trophies in the tournament and have your efforts acknowledged.. not a moment to blow off because you're miffed you came up short.
Hopefully Bedard serves as a better example to the kids in his career.

Such a classless and pathetic lack of sportsmanship and arrogant sense of self entitlement from McDavid. He will go down as the most sore and petulant loser in NHL history.
No true hockey fan could ever cheer for such a spoiled bratty no-goodnik.

Not sure what it is today, but the air feels a little cleaner and the sun feels a little brighter. I even notice a spring in my step.

The part that I find bizzare is the sportswriters that are claiming he didn't accept the award because he is a true leader, focused on it being a team game, blah, blah, blah.
Call a spade a spade, he didn't come out because he's a whiny entitled bitch.

I’m a little more forgiving to Mcdavid on the Conn Smyth award. It really is a no win situation. I think they should just change the rule so it can only go to a player from the winning team. For game 7’s have them vote a player from each team and give it to winner.

nah, no forgiveness. He's the biggest name in hockey right now, he should find it in his whiny self to accept the award. It's a tough moment, I get it. It's not like J.S. Giguere was happy, but he had the class to still accept it. No excuse for McDinkleberg here.

Probably too embarrassed, he played like a loser in game 7.
Didn’t show up for the biggest game of his life

Yeah, what could he tell his team after the game, I am the greatest but I forgot to set my alarm and missed the game 😂

Belch.
It's surely a tough spot, but give me a break. You take a picture and you bolt. It's not asking much of anyone and really it comes with the territory. Sorry you played like crap in the biggest game of your life, but you still need to do the decent thing and come out for the trophy.
It's not like this is some second rate award here...it's probably the highest and most storied individual honor in the entire league. Not coming out is pretty unforgivable.

Hextall accepted the Conn Smythe. So did Giguere. So has every other player who won it on a losing team. It’s not as though this was a totally unprecedented situation. And as Scroopy points out, you can bet Crosby would have accepted it.
It was a petulant move. Like the Swedish hockey player who tossed away his silver medal at the world juniors. Not something you would expect from a guy who is supposed to be one of the top ambassadors for the league and the game. His own parents expected more of him.
