I have not heard anything about Columbus wanting a defenseman at their pick let alone Parekh. As much as Montreal would like Lindstrom I think he goes to Columbus at 4. The three other players I can see Columbus taking or Demidov, Catton, or Eiserman if available. The team that seems to be on Parekh the most is Ottawa.

Even looking at kids of NHLers who don't get drafted high or have a cup of coffee in the NHL is not an issue. Most NHLers kids don't even excell in junior hockey to the point where they are serious hockey players. Orr's kids never played seriously. Even the son of maybe greatest talent to play the game IMO (Mario) played a couple years of college and that's it. So the genetics thing isn't a thing for me. I do think it's a cool story and picking Iginla is certainly not a reach given his ranking. That's the fun part.

I’ve seen about 40% of drafts having Tij gone before 9, and 60% going 9 or later. I think trying to predict anything but 1st overall is nearly impossible. As it gets closer maybe news of specific guys gets out there, but too hard to say right now

The genetics part isn't a big thing IMO. Obviously physical attributes play a part and those are often genetically inherited. For me, it's more a matter of upbringing and indoctrinating the kid with good habits and character.
Look at Jarome even now. The guy looks like he could still play.

The draft is unpredictable in general but this first round has even more possibilities. I look at the teams drafting ahead of the Flames and I think the Habs take Lindstrom and suppose Utah is a wildcard, but I don't see the Senators going winger and I see the Kraken going defense so I tend to think he's going to be available at 9. You just never know though as I would not be surprised if he's picked earlier.

If Iginla is there at 28 the Flames should take him.

Lindstrom might really drop with his injury concerns

Seems like the vibe is opposite. That teams are feeling better about him now and chances are he goes top 5. Likely doesn't get past CBJ and Montreal.

It's a fun bet. Over/Under at 9 seems about right. The fact that this is the Flames pick makes it even better.

With all of the options and rankings all over the place, I'm just excited. We either get Tij (I hope we do), or he goes earlier which means someone else falls. Repeat that a couple more times with some surprises and who knows who lands in our lap!
