Every time Bennett and Tkachuk are on the ice together the last couple playoffs, they seen to be dominating most of the time.
Now we are left with scraps, while Florida has two of the best playoff performers in the league that we traded them.

And as someone noted, the highest two draft picks in Flames history that are part of their core.

Happy for Bennett. If he stayed here, you know he would have been buried on the 4th line wing and never properly developed.

Right, but if you listen to people here, high draft picks have no bearing on success.

I would guess probably not. Sutter started to use him properly and Bennett was happy to stay with Sutter as coach but Treliving honored his initial wishes and traded him after a small handful of games with Sutter as coach.
Bennett was eager to play for Sutter after talking to him before Sutter could join the team.
Sutter said he wished he could have had more time with Bennett, he thought Bennet was great and would have seen huge improvements with Sutter.

Ya, I have no doubts we would’ve seen deadly Bennett with Sutter. Treliving is a joke. I actually think Bennett rescinded his trade request, but Treliving traded him anyway because of the expansion draft.

I've long been a defender of Tre, but seeing how successful the Panthers have been since the trade, has made me quite bitter.
Regardless of what fans were saying, it was his job to see through the noise and make the right decisions. He made a number of bad ones. This franchise has been set back for a long time.

He should be considered at the top of the list as the worst GM for the franchise. When he left, Feaster was above him, but as things have played out this year, I have to put Tre above him now.
How to ruin a franchise 101 should be seminar presented by him.

Never had any ill feeling for Bennet. Loved the pick at the time and still enjoy seeing how he turned out. Just speaks on our organization unfortunately that he is so impactful elsewhere.

I think Bennett would have been the ultimate Sutter-type center. They were a match made in heaven, but just too late for it to happen.
Maurice plays a very similar style to Sutter: man to man defense, high intensity forecheck, dump and chase when there's no play, defense first and high energy skating style. The only place where they differ is that Maurice let's guys play with creativity when it becomes possible. Sutter was too stringent in that regard.
Either way, Bennett is becoming the player he was meant to be, and that's great no matter what team you cheer for.

Coaching was a factor because I don't think they really understood what they needed to do with these two type of players. Coach Q knew what to do right away as soon as he got Bennett. Now they've got both players playing together. Those two guys are dominating together, I don't think they ever would have played together on the Flames without a proper coach.

It's bitter sweet watching Tkachuk and Bennett but realistically the Flames wouldn't have the supporting cast to be replicating the Panthers anyways so it doesn't really matter. We'd probably be blaming them for the mediocre results.

All but a handful of teams (who happen to be tanking) spend to the cap. It is not worth any praise whatsoever.
The fact that he isn't quite the worst is just not a good argument. Even the casting couch doofus has a team still playing right now.

I think there was a time when the Flames could have picked up Sam Reinhart but a lot of people here didn't think he was that good. The Panthers saw something in him, and they saw something in San Bennett too. I think if we had put Sam Bennett and Tkachuk, together the Flames might have realized they had something. I think we just didn't have the right coaches. I read an interview recently where Mark Messier was raving about how underrated Sam Bennett was on the Panthers, and that he was one of the key reasons why they were going to the finals for the second year.
Calgary just didn't know what they had or what to do with it.

Remember when gully gave Bennett’s minutes to Ryan.
And this place justified it…
Hope they lose in the worst way possible

There are maybe a handful of ownership groups worse than ours. They are part of the problem for sure.
Even if Conroy was an amazing GM, he is handcuffed by ownership and their retool crap.

Ya, about as dumb a move as any I’ve seen the Flames make.

If you want an incompetent GM, neither of those guys can hold a candle to Button, and he was not nearly as bad as Risebrough.
As I just said in another thread, the chronic problem with the Calgary Flames is that they are owned by people who have no idea how to hire good hockey managers.
