Remember when TFP said Kadri was going to be an Islander?

That's still a solid return. Especially picks in better drafts.
Whatevs , Flames are gonna do their thing and we just sit back and watch.

The offseason teams won't have to spend a 1st and Holtz, they can just use cap space to sign someone.
Would anyone here be excited if the Flames in the 2020 off season traded a 1st and Zary for Markstrom?
There are no pressure points in the offseason as well, and it pretty much goes dead in mid July and August.

And quite honestly, Markstrom will be a better mentor for Wolf.
Since we arent going to be contending for a cup anytime soon, even if they trade Markstrom in the off-season, they'll find another vet that can help Wolf along.
This team wants to be competitive when the doors open on the new rink.

I find it hard to believe holtz was not part of the deal. Too much smoke around him . As for no 2024 first round pick , I believe that.

I found this using googles:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Flyers/comm..._see_what_the/
Getting a 1st isn't out of the realm of possibility, nor is it even unrealistic.

We could probably sign MAF or Quick to be a mentor for Wolf. I wouldn't want to miss out on maximizing an asset in service of a small degree of familiarity in mentorship. Not worth it.

What makes you think either of them would be interested in coming here?

Friedman made it seem like if this deal got done, it would push our retool forward quickly in his mind.
It had to be 1st and Holtz at the very least. I do wonder if either Holtz or the 1st was the piece for retention, and that's what broke the deal down as we wanted more.
If it was a 1st and Holtz and no retention that is is a overpayment for a goalie and we should have taken it. Mike Smith netted a C prospect and 3rd rounder.

This makes no sense, if that's the case why are you trading tanev and hanifin? They are going to miss the playoffs, be consistent in your approach to rebuilding and focus on your long term goal here.
This is probably just posturing, make the other team think he is not available, so they the "up" the offer

When Markstrom is ultimately traded in the future, much anguish will ensue as posters compare the actual return to speculated but unconfirmed returns that may or may have not been currently offered to the Flames. A few "immediate grounds for termination" posts will surely be sighted.

To be quite accurate, the posturing is being done by the guys at The Fourth Period. They don't have the best track record for breaking this kind of thing, do they?

Even setting aside the fact there will be lots of goalies available in the summer (as there are every off-season), it’s safe to say Markstrom for three playoffs has more value than two.

That's the catch though.
Our problem right now is we lack elite talent.
This team wants to be competitive when the doors open on a new arena but they won't be if they stay in the middle for the next couple years.
Markstrom will keep them there more then any other player on the roster.
I like what another poster said the other day.
Strong mentorship and being competitive is good for prospect development.
It's bad for prospect accumulation.
I'm of the belief that were getting the cart before the horse and we need to be focused on prospect accumulation (high end blue chip) for a season or two .

A lot of talk here
But
Really who knows what the ask or the offers were.
Deals are never dead and this move/leak tells us either the offers are no where near the ask and let’s move on
Or
It’s damn close and it’s time for someone to blink
There is absolutely no reason to leak this otherwise

Only offering 2 1st round picks? Or a choice between the 2?

3. Boston has a goalie that will no doubt be available in the offseason, just a matter of determining which, and that goalie will be better than ours. Right now we potentially have the best available.
There are three reasons why we shouldnt expect his value to remain this high, now you could answer my question about why we are expecting it to remain high or become easier to acquire what we are hoping for.
Also with Cap moving up this summer we could see teams make moves not yet conceived. IMO vegas has a spare goalie as well that could move in the right scenario.

If Boston moves a goaltender it will be Ullmark. He is going to cost even more than Markstrom will.
