I think it's silly that Tanev is so under valued. He would have been my number 1 target for a team needing a D and trying to win a cup.
Looks like I'm a Stars fan this playoffs.
Over time I find I have few players I really root for - but Tanev was one of those.

Not a thrilling return all in all, and it should be judged on its own merit. However, with the trades done and trades still pending, it does afford some flexibility to deal some of these picks for future years picks through a package. I doubt the Flames keep all this years picks. Seems like too many to take in one year. If I were to make a second guess, the Hanifin trade will be for next years’ picks to whomever he gets dealt to.

Config is very new to this. Seems like he got worked a bit. If you sit on tanev and take nothing because no one’s meets your price, that’s not a terrible thing to do in your first year as GM, build up a reputation. Also to retain 50% and still not get a first is a letdown.

Depends. Double retention is a way of lessoning the cap hit to the Stars further. the Flames could retain and then NJ could help further.
