If he still drags his feet going to the summer then you have to see what's out there for him, you can't walk him to UFA. Long term health of the team just doesn't allow for it.

It'll be ok. Maybe you can get a 1st, a prospect, a former 115pt winger due for a raise and a #2 defenceman for him.

Is it an anyone but Canada, or anyone but Canucks? It seems like there's bad blood between Pettersson and Canucks management/ownership.

Stealing Petterson from the canucks for free would be a dream.
We will have about 16 million we could play with in UFA next year.
It's porbably crazy but I would throw like 14 or 15 million at him for however many years.
You want a quick retool. That's how you do it.
But if he wants to leave Vancouver it's probably because he has specific markets in mind and I doubt that's Calgary.
Will probably end up in Florida, Tampa, New York or Boston.

What’s the issue? Just wants out of Vancouver or wants to go the States?

Have there been any rumors at all about what is driving Pettersen? Specific market? Desire to play with a specific player?
Vancouver seems to be in a pretty good spot contention wise, nice city to live in. If they're not offering him enough to stay... well that seems foolish.

Huberdeau - Petterson - Sharongovich
Zary - Kadri - Pospisil
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Pelletier - ? - Coronato
Klapka -Duehr
We would probably need to sell Kuzmenko and/or Mangiapane this summer in order to make it work.
Just need to sell him on Little Sweden in the Prairies.
|
The Flames have $23M in cap space. They need 4D, 2F(likely just re-sign Pelletier, Rooney replacement).
I still don't see Pettersson coming here. Carolina looks like a potential fit with 31M of cap space, and several pieces they could move(Necas, Jarvis, or even Svechnikov).

If they aren't willing to part with what Connie wants, then move on to a different team. Don't want to replace quality with quantity.

There is nothing to indicate this. No one knows anything in regards to this, except Pettersson. No one knows why he is waiting. No one knows what his hold-ups are other than the ones stated. There is no indications he wants actively to leave. He has not shown or said he is unhappy with the organization in any way. But by not signing, he's opening the door to speculation.

Nothing. This is why up until now, legitimate insiders have had the stance of "nothing burger, he will sign." After this weekend, even some of them don't know anymore. Even he actually loves it here, wants to play his whole career here an this is just a negotiation tactic to make the team sweat and back up the truck, what if his plan is to sign here and now a team offers an obscene deal for him that the Canucks would be insane to say no too? The Lindros deal, as it were. A team cannot risk walking this kind of player to free-agency. It's just not tenable for the long term health of the franchise.

As far as any one knows, there is no known issue. Pettersson isn't talking about it to anyone.

Sure but he needs to know what the best offers are. It's entirely possible that they have the best offer on the table but aren't willing to give up a first round pick (yet).
'25 second round pick
'24 third or fourth (whichever they don't send us for the Lindholm deal)
Elias Petterson (the D prospect)
That would be a solid offer.

Jeremy Rutherford saying that the Blues will trade Kyrou before his NMC kicks in this summer. He'd be another great target.

It was the little Sweden LOL.
I've heard they've offered him $12.5 M. No idea if true..
If he's tired of losing, Calgary isn't the place for him to come too.
And offering him $14-15M isn't the answer long term. Just ask Edmonton.
