Kuzmenko... if he's being traded its a bit out of left field imo. I like the idea it's part of a bigger package. He's notably played with nishushkin (col), marchenko (clb), and kaprisov (min) in the khl, but I'm sure plenty of teams are interested just based off his nhl time.

Sitting him is really strange, he's been a great addition to the team.

With his continuing cap hit, he's very unlikely to be anyone's target.

Kuzmenko being sick also probably explains why his ice time was cut on Thursday.



Since joining the Flames, Vladar only has 2 starts against the Oilers. He has played well with a 1-1-0 record and the loss can't be blamed on him. Meanwhile, the Oilers seem to be in Markstrom's head since the playoffs.

It's possible they're resting Markstrom for trade purposes. It's also possible they're just going with the guy who has played better against Edmonton recently.


After tonight, the Flames only have one game in the next week. I'm sure if he can, Conroy would love to get stuff done this week while the team has a light schedule and both the Flames and Wranglers will be in town.

Markstrom + Tanev to NJ (both at 50% retention)

for

2024 1st, 2025 2nd (conditional unprotected 1st if they win the cup this year), Mercer, Holtz, Casey - essentially Markstrom at 50% for 1st, Mercer, Casey and Tanev for Holtz + conditional 2nd

Hanifin (25% retained) sign and trade to FLA

for

Lundell, 1st, 2nd, 3rd (conditional 2nd if FLA makes conference finals)


NJ vs FLA in the ECF, NJ wins the cup (wouldn't mind cheering for Tanev, Markstrom)

NJ flops year after, top 10 pick becomes ours 2025

0% chance they do that. Cut Holtz and cut retention on Tanev and we might be talking.

Yeah, that's wildly optimistic.

For Markstrom and Tanev, both retained, a great return would be Mercer, Casey and a 1st.

No need to push for quantity, this return is all quality.

Ride it all to the last hour on trade deadline and all bidders get desperate and they make a bad trade due to the flurry and all the tension.
