This is definitely a huge domino to fall. I wouldn't hate teams spicing up a normally borish all-star break with some moves.
|
Friedman suggested the other day that the flames have asked Hanifin to give them a decision on extending when he gets back from the all star break. We could have some clarity (maybe not necessarily a trade) as early as next week if Hanifin’s answer is leaked. My guess is he does not extend and is traded.
If Hanifin is open to a sign-and-trade/agreeing to an extension before being traded, I would think the flames will likely sort out an agreed upon trade from a team wanting to talk an extension with Hanifin before they allow them to talk. For example, if Detroit only wanted to trade for Hanifin if he is willing to sign, the flames would work out a trade with Detroit first before allowing them to talk to Hanifin about an extension. If Hanifin’s discussions don’t go well with Detroit, the deal is scrapped. If they do, the deal is already agreed to and Hanifin is traded and then extended.

But if nucks make the WCF that means the oilers dont.... so there's that. I take the 3rd and run.

I do wonder how the rest of the league views Mangiapane these days. A team looking for some scoring depth could be poking around a guy like him. With maximum retention, he could be an attractive piece.
Ever since he got his payday, he just seems like he's in no mans land. He's young, so do the Flames consider him a warm body for the rebuild? Hard to say. He was such a hot commodity coming off his 30 goals season, and his performance at the Worlds.
|
This would be my dark horse trade this year. Retention would be for this year and next, and a team picking him up for under 3 million would be pretty attractive. The Flames don't have to be a cap team next year.

I would trade Hanifin straight-up for either Kasper or Danielson, but the Wings would never do it, unfortunately. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not big on Berggren...

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but Garrioch says the Kings are the new team interested in Tanev….

I think Lindholm had the most potential for a crappy return. Makes me optimistic for the Tanev and Hanifin trades.
I wonder if they can get Kakko for one the late 1sts.

There is still time to pump up Kuzmenko's numbers before a deadline trade. If he can get been to a 30+ goal pace in Calgary, he could get a decent return.

Given the center situation I wonder if they try to do something around turcotte and a pick.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Don't know why but it seems when we all try to guess which young prospect is coming back, its wrong. I wouldn't expect anyone we know at this point in any of these deals. Not necessarily a bad thing, just that maybe the people suggesting teams aren't trading their top prospects are right.

With the haul we got, I really am 50/50 on Hanifin.
If you can get a similar haul you can’t help but wonder that Conroy is willing to give him up. It’s also hard to find another d-man of Hanifin’s caliber, who is a good 2/3 D on ANY team.

Hanifin can go. Backlund can go with him. Goodnight Irene.

At $5.5M next year, he's going no where until perhaps next trade deadline.

Contending teams don't historically trade NHL ready prospects for rentals, as those are the exact type of players those teams need to remain cap compliant in the next years to come.
They'll trade draft picks, as those players are years away.
The Canucks gave up Hunter as he's a PP QB with defensive deficiencies.
Calgary can utilize that skillset, the Canucks already have Quinn Hughes, so that's a prospect they can afford to trade. A decent enough prospect, but he wasn't cracking the Canuck lineup anytime soon.

Pretty obvious now that Avs never offered Bo Byram for Lindholm. We can put that one to rest.

Gimme older Buium over Bergren. I've come around on that proposal entirely (Sandman)

Well sounds like Tanev is the next hot asset for the trade deadline, over 15+ teams in on him (want wise). I've got a good feeling we could see a huge haul for him as well now.
Couple that with potentially Hanifin becoming available, my lord it could all be happening.

Yep
and
I've heard a couple of times that there isn't much difference in the back end of the first round anyway so Id rather the Oilers be out no later than the second round and us getting a third.

would love Alex Laferriere. Kings are deep at RW (Kempe, Byfield and Kaliyev)

Yep. It appears a lot of interested teams were offering crap returns given Conroy circled back to them and none of them could match the Canucks offer. Hopefully this sets a precedent for teams interested in Flames players that you either make a solid offer or you sit back and watch your potential playoff rivals get stronger.
