Carter says Bush's presidency 'worst in history'
http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/20...193340-ap.html
Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter says President George W. Bush's administration is "the worst in history" in international relations, taking aim at the White House's policy of pre-emptive war and its Middle East diplomacy.
The criticism from Carter, which a biographer says is unprecedented for the 39th president, also took aim at Bush's environmental policies and the administration's "quite disturbing" faith-based initiative funding.
"I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history," Carter told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in a story that appeared in the newspaper's Saturday editions. "The overt reversal of America's basic values as expressed by previous administrations, including those of George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon and others, has been the most disturbing to me.
...
Carter came down hard on the Iraq war.

So do some of the 72% that don't approve of Bush....like me.
Carter was a horrible President. Bush has been too.

Had an idea!
|
A bit early to say something like this?
In about 10 years we will fully see the effect Bush had on the Middle East. Perhaps 30 years from now.

I think Carter is a classic example of how hard the job is and you can't get by with good intentions. If you aren't willing to be a sleazy politician, you can't expect to succed at that post. He wasn't "bad" or "stupid"... he was just weak. He has done a lot of good in his life outside of being the president though.
Bush on the otherhand, I seriously doubt he had good intentions to begin with... but as far politics go, he is better at it than Carter was. It's hard to imagine others being able to survive what he has and still serve 2 full terms. He may have been "bad" and a little "stupid", but he was strong.

Carter was weak and that's why we had hostages in Iran for 444 days. The day Reagan was inaugurated they were released. Not a coincidence.
I'm sorry, he can be the greatest guy in the world and a really super human being...he doesn't get a 'nice try, we know it's a tough job' free pass from me.

Dis, Carter is one of the recent American presidents which I've got pretty limited knowledge about, why is it that you dislike him so much?
I know some things were out of his control and it was a generally disappointing period in the states economicly, but I find it hard to blame everything on him.

See my post above regarding the hostage crisis in Iran that drug on for 444 days because of Carter's weakness. He wasn't much of a leader either. He couldn't get people to rally behind him.
Everything is NEVER one person's fault....unless his name is George W. Bush evidently.

Reagan was a strong president... no doubt about that. But I think the Iranians released the hostages when Reagan took over more out spite to Carter than out of respect of Reagan. It looked good on Reagan, but I don't believe he caused the end of the hostage crisis.
Similar to the removal of the Berlin Wall. Reagan gets so much credit for telling Gorbachev to "tear down this wall", but the wheels were already in motion for the events that occurred after.

I agree on the latter, but it was made clear that when Reagan assumed power happy fun time would be over for Iran. They wanted no part of it.
For the record I'm not a gushing Reagan fan either.

Nothing spells the end of 'happy fun time' like under priced illegal arms exports.

There are some out there who feel the reagan presidency in particular, but US policy towards the soviet union in general, prolonged the soviet union by as much as 15 - 20 years.
