Really? This entire thread has revolved around the fact that once a man has climbed the friend ladder, it's extremely hard to jump to the dating ladder.

Friendship for a woman often means having someone listen while they vent, and yet men want no part of this because they feel the need to try and fix it which is at odds with what a woman wants. If they do manage to listen without the fixing thing, they've then been put on the friend ladder which is at odds with what a man wants.

If dating, a man doesn't want to take the five minutes needed for the girl to dump off her emotional load before he goes out (or whatever) and so she feels that he doesn't want to listen. She builds up her emotional baggage, explodes, and then watches the man walk away because she's gone off the deep end.

I believe that friendship means different things to the sexes.

I'm not sure there is anything on earth that means the same to each sex...

I admittedly have not read most of this thread, so my comment may have come out of context to the argument that you and Q-scout were engaged in.

However, I do not think it is a fair argument to state that a guy only pretends to want a friendship when in reality, he just wants a sexual relationship. Are there jerks who do that? Sure, but that comment just struck me as a pretty gross generalization.

Alright here's the thing, if I say I want to be your friend it's true, there's nothing false about that. Does it mean I haven't pictured you naked? Hell no, because . . . I have.

Frankly if you can't be friends with your lover I really pity you. The whole point is to find your mate, your reason d'etre, and I can't imagine not being friends with that person. I just . . . can't.

As for the how you look in clothes, I've said "F*** IT" years ago and if it looks bad I tell you, one thing I've noticed is girls will say "hey you're not supposed to say that, you're supposed to say it looks good regardless". Mind you I always give a solution or subsitution not just a no. "Does this shirt look good?" is followed by a "I liked the other one better" or "I can't find earrings to match this shirt" I always reply "don't wear a shirt, problem solved"

This might surprise you, but as a male I highly value the friendships I have with women - they are some of my best friends. I'm not always looking for women as a means for getting a date. It's actaully quite refreshing to go to a movie or dinner without all the added emotion things that goes along with a relationship.

I'm the same way. I like being able to go out to the movies, dinner, or grab a coffee with a female friend without the added baggage that comes with dating (not that the baggage is bad, just sometimes simple friendship is good too).

Some of my very best friends are girls, girls who I could never see myself dating (I have pictured them naked though). I don't see anything wrong with that. Heck if you're "just a friend" goofing around you'd be surprised how often girls let you play with their boobs

I think many women picture their male friends naked too. Or maybe it's just me.

if that's the case, I only have one leg. I know according to the Facebook pictures it looks like I have two, but what's down my right pant leg is actually my . . .

Just so you can do that naked picturing more accurately. I mean I don't want you to be envisioning the wrong thing now.

So it's always hard then? Cause if it's limp, I don't care how big it is, you wouldn't be able to walk on it. Must have a real tough head. Do you trail slime while you walk too? Just trying to get an accurate picture here...

Here we go again. I've never said that men and women can't be friends. In fact, I've stated that it is a very good basis for something more. Let's leave that one alone. Despite the fact that it could be considered a lie by omission, it was a mistake to use that as an example.

It came up again because saying "nothing" when it means "something. Sit down 'cause I've a few things to share" is a white lie.

However, my point still stands. Men lie to women too.

all well and good, but you're not allowed to use that argument. It's based on logic, when clearly you should be overwhelmed emotionally with the thought of a huge . . . ummmm . . . "right leg" . . . that the above thought never entered your mind

You're too young for me. So, any thought of your right leg, also involves thoughts of more training. The rest of you would have to be almost perfect to put myself through that torture again. Thanks, though. I'll pass.

How is telling the truth a lie? "Lying by omission" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Girl: "Does that shirt look good on me"
Guy: "yes it does"

is that a lie?

Apparently, because the guy didn't respond

"Yes it does, it's much better than the black one, however I do prefer the pink one that you wore yesterday it matches your ear rings much nicer. The green shirt ranks about the same but not with those pants, for the green shirt you should be wearing your jeans. However if you're wearing jeans then the yellow shirt goes better with them than the green one does, but I put the yellow shirt in the wash about 10 minutes ago after I made myself a snack, and had a class of orange juice. For my snack I had a sandwich with white bread, mustard, and Montreal-syle smoked mean, all purchased as Sobeys at the mall. I cut the break length wise, I thought I'd change it up today as yesterday I cut my ham sandwich, also on white with mayo, diagonnally"

If you didn't omit anything you'd never do anything!

My nic implies I'm from the Maritimes but no Cape Breton . . . is that a lie?

Sorry people who say "lying by ommission" is a lie is pet peeve of mine. You'd have to give your whole life story for people to understand the context. Assumption is a HUGE part of communication

I wasn't refering to the clothing issue. I was referring to being friends, but also wanting more. Sorry.

And you still haven't addressed the fact that men lie too.

Yes it is. The longer you've been alive, the more your bad habits are ingrained. Hence, more training. Save me now, Lord!
