That and the biggest advantage Calgary has over Edmonton is that Calgary simply is NOT Edmonton.

So completion either fall of 2026 or summer 2027 since the team won't move arenas mid season

I think at the end of the day, not that many people want to live right beside an an event center.
Same with businesses except for those that cater directly to the event center (ie sports bars/restaurants, parking lots, hotels).
For everyone else its probably more of a hassle to have thousands of people roaming around 3-4 times per week.
I've been to LA Live a couple of times in the past two years and I experienced the same thing there as in Edmonton. They have a little zone with some bars/restaurants that experiences a bunch of activity before the game, but the area as a whole isn't benefiting greatly from an event center.

So I've got 3 years to get out there for one final game at the Saddledome?
Youngest will only be 4 at most, so not old enough to remember the trip, thus saving me the cost of flying both kids out. Excellent.

When the Bills got the final approval for their new stadium they had shovels in the ground literally the next day.
