Personally it feels like he panicked and made the decision on the spot.

My guess is they had a discussion about bringing in Kikuchi to face the LH heavy part of the batting order...either the 2nd or 3rd time through the rotation...and when there was potentially a sign of trouble.

My gut is he panicked and pulled the trigger too early when Berrios walked the lead off man.

If that was the 5th or 6th inning and they were about to go through the third time through the order then I doubt anybody really questions it as much...but seems crazy to do it in the 4th.

I don't think that is the case if you saw how hard Kikuchi was warming up an inning before he came in. As they pointed out on the broadcast, Kikuchi put the pitchcom device in before the inning even started.

I think he was coming in even if he struck out the leadoff man.

A team that is quite healthy (only down Jansen) that has Biggio hitting fifth just isn’t a well constructed team.

The lack of bats has been obvious since early in the season. They had MONTHS before the deadline to make a move. It didn’t have to be done right at the deadline. They didn’t do anything.

This sub par hitting Twins team beating them in 2 just shows how terrible the offence is. The calculation of sacrificing power for pitching/ defence while making zero moves to add a bat has made Shatkins look like the biggest clown tandem in the league
