You cannot be serious.
Maybe you want to tell us how Nazis are just misunderstood and we shouldn't have such an allergy to our parliament applauding a former SS trooper.
It's especially strange coming from someone who has Ukrainian insignia as their avatar.
It will blow over with time as anything does, but this incident has made Canada the laughing stock of the world for at least a few days/weeks.
If these people are our elected officials, how dumb is the average Canadian?
Just shameful, and the worst part, completely self-inflicted.

A number of Americans I've talked to over the past few years who when I told them I'm Canadian, their initial reaction was along the lines of "oh, doesn't your president do crack cocaine or something?"
You'd like to think this kind of stuff blows over in a few days or weeks. But for some people it just doesn't.
Thanks to Rob Ford, we were known as the country of cocaine users. Now maybe we're thought of by some as a country of Nazi sympathizers.
That said, hopefully you're right and this blows over and doesn't cause much damage in the long run. But there's reason to believe it might have a long lasting negative effect.

I really don't understand why Trudeau does this. He's going to apologize on behalf of the government eventually, why not just get it over with?
Their game plan for every crisis or scandal seems to be deny and deflect until it blows up in their face. The opposition is going to hammer them every day and it's going to stay in the news until he addresses it.

If you start worrying about what the average American knows about Canada, I have some pretty bad news for you and your psychologist...

They vote, hence we must be concerned about how they process information.

Really?
At least 2 of their actual presidents have admitted to cocaine use but a Canadian mayor using it makes us a country of cocaine users?
I'd be surprised if the vast majority of Americans had a clue who Rob Ford was.

It’s precisey why it’s time for a new election. Government cannot be trusted and lacks accountability on all ends. It’s consistent across their entire tenure. Saying this as an individual who voted for Trudeau.

To a rational person, no, of course not.
But lots of people are not rational. Therein lies the problem.

I’m sure comparing someone who disagrees with you to a climate change denier is a super serious way to have a conversation in your head. The same place where your position was so clear it must be everyone else who is the problem.
And this:

Is also absurd, and complete fiction.
Speaking from experience, the chance of you running into more than one American, no less multiple Americans who:
- Know enough about Canada to know who Rob Ford is or know/remember any Rob Ford-related stories even if they can’t remember the person (a reference from a decade+ ago)
- Know little enough to think Canada has a President
- Both care enough to hold that reference point in their head for a decade but care too little to have zero working knowledge about Canada at all
Is zero. I enjoy making fun of stupid Americans as much as the next American, but that’s a pretty easy bluff to call.
I, personally, am not worried about Canada’s reputation in the eyes of Americans made-up for comic effect or exaggerated because you met one guy who said that to you in 2016 or whatever. Because that’s the thing about made-up people, you can get them to believe anything.

Not just an Axis veteran, but a member of the goddamn Waffen SS. LMAO. Usually the phrase "fought against the Russians in WW2" would raise an eyebrow or two and warrant some more research but not from this intrepid crew. Congratulations to everyone who voted for this government, politicians aren't capable of embarrassment or self reflection but hopefully you are.

What's even more embarrassing is an opposition party that is so tone-deaf to what Canadians will vote for, and chock full of bigots and religious nutters, that they can't win an election against this incompetent band of idiots.
