The Bruins have to sign or get replacements for Bertuzzi, Bergeron, Krejci, Hathaway, Nosek, Swayman, Clifton, Orlov, and Mitchell. They needed to do the Hall trade and they still don't have money for Lindholm.

I think they can be better next year than expected and a year out even more.

It's not like they were unexpectedly bad last year. They have been working towards this since the 2022 trade deadline. With a talent like Bedard you don't need as much to become competitive. Hall might find its not so bad playing there.

But yes, with the failure of the team this year, it makes the Monahan trade taste pretty bitter.
Next you're gonna tell us Hamonic was worth a 1st and two 2nds because of "price fluctuations". Funny how the Flames were consistently on the wrong end of those.

Treliving was a terrible GM. There. Much simpler explanation.

It seems like a lot longer than 3 years ago that half of CP wanted to offer Hall 7x8M.

Boston also acquired Reilly Walsh for Shane Bowers today.

Bedard is not going to make that lineup competitive this year.

When they got Kane and Toews, they were at the end of their rebuild. As The Cobra said, they already had Keith, Seabrook, Byfuglien, Sharp, Lang, Ladd, Versteeg...

They weren't a team just entering a rebuild and Kane made them great all by himself.

Cool - make #### up and use that as an argument.

I'm not saying they'll be a playoff team this year. But they could be like a 80 point team. Another year out and add a bit and they could be a playoff team.

My point is that a piece as good as Bedard plus some other items they added last year and this could let them turn a lot quicker than a team like Detroit that seems to always be picking 4th type of thing.

They could be an 80 point team if they tried to be an 80 point team and used their cap space to acquire some veterans on contracts they'd regret.

But I expect they'll sign enough players to 1-2 year contracts to fill out their team and use their cap space to acquire talent.

If they really wanted to get to 80 points, they'd try and acquire a goalie who could actually stop a puck or two.

Yeah.

That’s why he’ll never get another GM job ever again after other teams completely assess his body of work & see that Hamonic trade.

This makes a lot of sense, unless Chicago is hoping Hall's negotiating savvy rubs off on Bedard.

I wonder if Hall gets traded soon. Hawks retaining 50% on Hall suddenly makes him an incredibly attractive option for almost any contender. I am not sure they have any retention spots open, but if they do, it certainly could create a bit of a bidding war.

I can understand this deal from Chicago's perspective.

They need someone to help Bedard score at the NHL level, enter Hall.

They need someone to help Bedard learn how to be an absolute pro at the NHL level, enter Foligno.

I doubt it. They don’t want to develop Bedard around a bunch of junk. Hall will be a good winger for him to play with and a mentor that knows what it’s like to be a 1st overall pick in a hockey market.

Hall also has 2 years left on his deal so they can pick up some assets two deadlines from now.
