This would make sense to me:
To Toronto: Mikael Backlund, Dan Vladar
To Calgary: Matt Murray, 28th Overall in 2023, 3rd round pick
Flames then buyout Murray?

I'd take the two prospects and 28 for the Murray buyout, Backlund and Vlladar package. I'd even retain a bit on Backlund.

Would rather free up Kadri money, he may be a guy that doesn't fit with this group and his effort was wanting. What happens if we get that same player next season.

I don’t think any other team will take him on though

St. Louis interests me more. They want to move Scandella, and need a center. How big would they be willing to go for Lindholm? #25, #28 and Jimmy Snuggerud?

Buying out Murray costs $2.6875M total over two years.
$6M seems to be the going rate for a 1st.
Vladar is effectively valueless.
Backlund is probably worth a late 1st, so yeah...I just valued Murray's buyout as a 3rd and the fact that the deal resolves our three headed monster in net.

If Backlund fetches a first, and taking on Murray should fetch a first, your package is light. There should be 1sts ++ in that deal, let alone including Vladar.

The value of the buyout being unknown but I love that deal and is exactly the kind of creativity I hope we start to see from this organization.

Backlund is coming off of a career year and is one of the top (2nd line) two way centers in the league. He's on a great expiring contract that the Flames can even sweeten further by retaining more. He needs to fetch more than a late first round pick in return.
This isn't a deadline deal, the team is getting a full year of his services on top of first crack at retaining him long term.

No, a 1st = $6M.
Murray = $2.6875M
Not a 1st.
Also, Vladar has zero value - and possibly negative value. $2.2M for a backup goalie coming off a bad season is not something that holds value.

You should be able to get 28 for Backlund alone. He would likely bring you a first as a pure rental at the deadline.
If Murray is a cap dump at $4.7m he's pretty much worth a 1st / 2nd on his own just to take that deal...look at Marleau and Monahan.
And then Vladar is worth probably a third on his own, and if he's not Flames should just keep him.

It is disappointing because I think a guy like Lindholm has a lot more to offer. Lindholm plays he game the right way and contributes on offence he will likely age better.. Kadri showed us he could be declining, doesn't care as much and a waste of money that could be used for Lindholm.

I really value Murray's buyout as a 3rd.
Vladar + Backlund = 28th Overall.
I don't think Vladar is valued at a 3rd.

Just curious - how do we know that a 1st = $6m? is that $6m the initial cap hit, or the annual cap hit after the buyout?
If you are basing it on the Monahan trade, then Murray is a fair comparable for a #1 - his initial cap hit is $6.25 -it shouldn't matter that OTT retained and would be on the hook cap wise.
Vladar has value - TOR currently only has Woll & Murray. Maybe BT wants a goalie he knows and is willing to pay.

I also don't think we need to buy out Murray. With how injury prone Markstrom and Murray are, Wolf could start with the Wranglers and be an easy call up. You know one of those goalies would go down with an injury, namely Murray. A buyout wouldn't be necessary.

BT is no stranger to giving away draft picks for immediate help.
Considering his new team as well, go fleece your old boss Connie!
