Disappointed. Was hoping for different names of people who’s coaching abilities I am completely incapable of evaluating.

I think Tanguay was interviewed as a head coach candidate, because he's already under contract with the Wings. He was probably allowed to leave for a higher coaching position, but if he was just going to be an assistant still, then probably not.

I think I'm a bit underwhelmed by the coaching choices, including Huska, as I don't see a lot of experience there...and the ones that are experienced ...I'm not keen on (MacLean and LaBarbera). OTOH I'm willing at this point to trust Conny who SAW first-hand those two and may have seen them opposing practices that led to issues last year...hence kept them on.
Hope Sigalet is gone though as part of this... no word on him that I've seen so far.

He’s the Director of Goaltending and is the one who hired Labarbera, who is staying.
In what world would they let him go? He’s not even a coach any more.

I have no clue about Savard's coaching ability or history. But I don't care. It's Marc Frickin' Savard. I'm thrilled

In a world where our goaltending is never good in consecutive years and we have an elite goaltending prospect who needs to be developed properly

An elite goaltending prospect who our Director of Goaltending was directly responsible in deciding to draft and became elite while our Director of Goaltending was in his current position.
Makes sense to let him go with that logic, I guess.

Sigalet seems to be in the right role now. Evaluating goalie talent and identifying targets for the team, but not really involved in the day-to-day coaching of the goalies (at least, that's my understanding of his role).
My understanding is he was heavily involved in recruiting Rittich and he identified Vladar as a trade target and pushed for Wolf to be taken with the last pick that year.

Exciting! Can marc this one down as a pretty under the radar, savvy move! Wasn't a name much talked about and had extremely good results in the OHL.

How don’t you see a lot of experience with Huska. He’s paid his dues at every level & literally has playing experience at every level.
On top of that, he was a centerman who focused on coaching defence, reciprocating growth in both his understanding of the game and his players in the WHL, AHL, & NHL.
Recent sign-&-trade Dman, Damon Severson… developed in Junior by Ryan Huska.
I think Love is and will be an excellent coach, but Huska has as much or more experience and pedigree of supporting, elevating and developing players as anyone.

Like Iginla, he will also provide excellent up to date, first hand knowledge of players/prospects entering the league. Marc’s son plays in Barrie with the Colts.
Both him & Jarome being elite players with high hockey sense can provide insight, perspective, & intelligence that most people do not and cannot possess.

I was speaking with one of the local coaches recently who has also played at a high level, and who had a great quote.
“People who don’t understand hockey blame goaltending”
Quote from post 14
Usually, I would agree with this quote. However, our team's goalies had a habit of allowing the first few shots to slip past them on many nights last season. Consequently, we often found ourselves in a difficult position and had to work hard to recover from this setback in most of our games.

How many times did the goalie face a high danger scoring chance as the first shot on goal after 5-6 minutes with zero action?
We may have given up the first few shots but we had huge breakdowns and blunders and the stats show the team took a dive suppressing high danger chances.
The team would spend 10 minutes warming up the other goalie with outside perimeter shots, and allow a massive breakdown and let our goalie face that chance.

Highs too high and lows too low. They are likely not responsible solely for either output. I highly doubt any staff is really going to make a significant impact on the goaltending in any way with an established number 1 like Markstrom.
Maybe someone like Wolf and Vladar would be more malleable though.

Also involved in Sergeev selection.
Goaltending talent evaluation and coaching is not the achilles heel of this team.
