Never said they would... chill

Was just thinking out loud what the roster would look like if we did fill internally, just to know what we have. Of course they'll probably sign a few free agents to fill spots... or like others have suggested, keep guys like Toffoli, Tanev, and Markstrom until the trade deadline.

Can't compare the expansion teams, they were each given 30 NHL players.

The Kings have been fortunate to have only been at it for 5 years, but they are very much at the short end, and it's still a bit of a work in progress.

I'm excited just for change. These guys can't get it done. I would rather watch a new crew try to figure it out with a new coach than watch this ####show again.

I hope all 3 guys are sorted out in the summer rather then go into next season with them. The last thing we need is this giant cloud hovering over the team, knowing the guys have one foot out the door already.

Yep this is where I am. Yes losing Backlund will undoubtable be a step back but he's old and I think Dube/Ruzicka can be a 3C if given some consistency.

Yeah I'm excited to see the young guys, Coronato, Pelletier and Wolf, even if the season won't be that great. And who knows what trades they make or UFA signings.

I would think an older player like Backlund would be better traded at the deadline. But this UFA class and particular lack of centers (and blueliners) maybe means we get something solid for him now.

I'd be entirely fine with a forced rebuild.
Watching a Flames team that sucks for a couple of years but is loaded with young, hopefully promising and improving players would be far more fun to me than what we watched last year.

I'm not sure Tre's in that much of a better situation with the Leafs. Looking at capfriendly, Leafs have even more guys hitting UFA in the next year or so. I'd say Leaf's are in a similar situation as the Flames, except with 10X the media scrutiny.

We don't have the old core, Flames need to look long term and build a solid base. Between the old core and the coaching hires we just didn't get it done.

The Kings work in progress is very close to where the Flames hit their ceiling in their win-now mode. They are looking down at the current Flames.
