thoughts and prayers.

Can't wait to hear what #######s like Abbott and Cruz will come up in a day or two in order to distract from the gun discussion. Mental health, transgender, wokeness? My guess would be something about immigrants.

Yep, here we go again and it doesn't end. We don't need to hear what garbage Abbott and Cruz will spew out. Their words are meaningless.

There was another shooting in the Dallas area (central Oak Cliff). A teenager was shot and killed and another wounded. https://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/2023/05/06/1-killed-1-wounded-in-central-oak-cliff-shooting-dallas-police-say/

The fact that they get re-elected speaks volumes about that broken society.

Have you been watching the news? You probably should be prepared for that, being a first responder. I think it's delusions like this that make it all that much worse. In the States, "it'll never happen to me" keeps people from accepting the reality that yes, yes it just could happen to you, because it is all that bad now.

"Right now" is the best it will be in America with regard to gun violence. I imagine it is only going to get worse. So sad.

Last I looked the U.S. was averaging 1.5 mass shootings a day. That’s 1.5 a day! With more crazies wanting to get into the action and lawmakers being beholding to the gun industry, that will only get worse. It’s terribly sad. And makes me angry.

By the way, that photo of the victims in Texas (I won’t get more descriptive than that) is sickening.

Maybe more people need to see these photos - is it working on cigarette packages?

I don't think anyone is buying cigarettes with the goal of horrible things seen on cigarette packages, but dead bodies on packaging for guns would be like advertising the desired outcome for the people doing this awful stuff.

I dont think it would matter. You can show as many gruesome photos and videos as you want, gun owners will still think it's a societal problem caused by the left, you know, like homelessness and drug addicts. "WE ARE THE RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS, DON'T TAKE THAT AWAY BECAUSE YOU CAN'T CONTROL CRAZY PEOPLE!"

Maybe gun owners should be required to have $100 million of insurance on those weapons. I’m not serious; as if that’d ever happen.

Spoiler!

Some random examples I put together of the merchandise available at "Grunt Style" -- a t-shirt shop in the Allen Premium Outlets Mall.

Obviously there's a demand for this sort of product and the sentiments expressed.

https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/r.../mass-shooting

Even just the ones you hear about is crazy, but when you start seeing it in list format you realize how out of control it really is.

If Mass Shooters started their own baseball team they'd play more games than any other Franchise.

Owning guns is not the problem. It requires a multi-faceted approach to start solving gun violence.

1. Require gun owners to obtain licences that demonstrate they know how to handle firearms safely and responsibly, just like we have to do in buying and driving a car.

2. Ban weapons with high capacity magazines that shoot more than one bullet with the press of a finger.

3. Encourage more research into gun violence, and allow the education and promotion of gun control.

4. Require background checks for all gun sales and hold those who sell guns responsible.

5. Invest in community-based violence prevention programs, and identify individuals at high risk of being involved in gun violence.

6. Address the root cause of gun violence i.e. unemployment, lack of education, mental health and addicition, etc.

While I agree with every point presented, doesn't #2 contradict your original statement? If owning guns is not the problem, why are you banning guns?

Firstly, I hope that your family and their friends/family are ok. Sadly, for many that won't be the case

It shouldn't be acceptable, but it is... Texas has the least restrictive gun control laws in America (i believe).

No one wants mass shootings, but through their actions (legislators and voters), they have made the potential for mass shootings possible.

Its time to co-opt the NRA slogan, "guns don't kill people; people kill people". They are right. People kill people: through who they choose to vote for, for what they legislate, for putting politcal ambitions above common sense for donating to causes and PACs that foment this corrosive garbage.

GOP have already put out statements like "mass shootings are the price we pay for the 2nd Amendment"

You reap what you sow.

Not gun related but a guy driving a Range Rover plowed into group of Migrants in Brownsville, Texas. Not sure if it was intentional but 7 people are confirmed dead.
