Ooooor, sell what you can, get some assets, and trade the assets for long term pieces this summer when teams can’t afford them or need to move on from them, a la Hamilton or Chychrun or Bjorkstrand or Eichel. Yeah you’re probably not going to get a superstar but you can turn a guy who’s going to be gone in the next summer for a guy who might stick around a while. It’s simple asset management.

Three seasons out, when futures might help us, Huberdeau and Kadri will be on a hard decline of post apex.

The realistic options are tear it down or stay the course for another season. There's really no in between
Then make the playoffs and watch them walk?

If anyone caught the after burner post game show Boomer and Pinder did yesterday. Boomer was adamant they are not selling and are probably standing pat or actually add to try to help this group because only 5 points out or so.

Would be a baffling decision but that kind of tracks with the sentiment from insiders and few rumors around.

my preference is to re-sign them for 8 years at which point they will never live up to their AAVs

The only right thing to do is rebuild. We're not winning anything without true elite talent. The Flames have none of that. Otherwise we'll just continue to be in the mushy middle like we have been for 30+ years.

With Kadri and Huderdeau weighing down the Flames cap, they will need young cost controlled players. It takes time for these to make it to a roster. This is not a good team, it will not be a competitive team next year, it's time to prepare for the next phase.

I don't know what SN does because I can't stand watching their coverage but TSN doesn't really spending a lot of time on analysis when the action is light and instead have a lot of goofy/stupid filler to kill time.

Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

I wouldn’t have traded the sky is falling discussion for peeing in the pool though. That was a bold move.

Look at the Eichel trade and ask if we got additional assets for Toffoli and Backlund/Tanev and then pooled them all together for a guy like Eichel are we not better off?

Doing nothing isn’t a terrible move. Don’t sell for the sake of selling. If the prices aren’t there, don’t do it.

As long as they aren’t buyers I’ll be satisfied.

Today, doesn't need to be today.

Eichel
Tkachuk
Chychrun

In the last year or so these are 3 young star players who asked to be moved.

List is longer of RFA's that got traded due to contact reasons.

Flames never have the assets to get in on this since Hamilton and Hamonic trades

That's where I'm at as well. It's disappointing we didn't have the foresight to sell after the Vegas / Colorado losses with all the action in the last few days.

There doesn't appear to be lots of trade partners left and my guess is that would impact our trade returns.

Colorado and Carolina both would still be great teams to sell to. Both of them can use some of the 2024 UFAs.

Finding homes for the scrubs might be harder.

I'm still holding out hope that Carolina and Colorado are looking at some of our players with this season + one more on their contracts. They seem like teams that should be going for it but still have their '23 1st round picks.

...sigh.

Sign them or trade them before the season for players that will help soon.
