Might come down to how long Darryl wants to coach. How long it takes to finish the business.
Since Darryl arrived back with the team he has been criticizing the org and how things have been done. I don't think he is a Treliving fan. I am not either. Tre has had 9yrs with this team and has had very little playoff success. ALMOST NONE.Two playoff rounds won in 9 yrs is very sad. People need to start putting the focus on Tre and not Sutter. Tre built this team and he is the reason their are foundation issues and flaws. This team had no identity for 7 yrs until Sutter got here. That is on Tre. This org had no clue what it takes to win until Sutter got here.

Because Darryl did so well in his decade of being GM
I'm as verbal of BT's mistakes as anyone but unless we're replacing him with Dubas, this organization gets immediately worse.

Darryl taking on an even bigger role in player personnel decisions would send this organization down a path it would be remiss to follow. There's a reason he was let go the first time.

I feel like we have forgotten that before Darryl we had coaches who were every game shuffling lines. I like how Darryl does make changes but sticks to the plan each game. His system takes some players time to adjust and I think we're seeing some players finally adjust to it.
The problem is I don't think his system works well with a goalie like Markstrom who blocks pucks instead of focusing on limiting rebounds. Last year we had enough fire power to overcome the goals that were being let in this is not the case this year. I wonder if there any statistics on goalies that track how good of job they do being able to freeze the play vs just blocking the puck.

Sutter was horrible here...brutal and has never been a GM since, probably all you need to know unless of course you are the Flames and seem to grow a hard on for all things Sutter.
I want to see what Pelletier can do badly too. But I highly doubt Pelletier views it as a waste of time. Especially since he’s getting paid way more.
Everyone seems to think that the player - whose lifelong goal is to be an NHL player - is happy sitting in the press box making NHL money for a few weeks. I'm sure thats not the worst but let's be honest,
he wants a chance to play and to stick with the team. You know what beats making NHL money for 2 weeks? Making that full time. Can't do that if he's never given an opportunity.
It is confusing to me that scoring has been a real issue all year, and we have guys tearing it up in the AHL but we just play the big fellas who crash and bang.
Wonder what the vibe is like on the Wranglers lately.
I hate jumping into conspiracy theories but this is all starting to stink.
In no particular order...
Tre drafting smaller players
Smaller players called up, Darryl refuses to play them.
Sutter says players haven't had enough practice time. Throws Duehr & Zohorna in with limited practices. Gives them plenty of minutes. Throws Phillips in after weeks of practice. Limited minutes. Some PP time. Rather uncreative linemates 5v5. Sorry Lewis. Still hasn't played Pelletier.
Darryl's hiring thought to be more an ownership call than a Treliving one. Tre carries the mail in interviews afterwards none the less. Says its was his call.
Darryl given an extension following a great year, Jack Adams award. Treliving has no extension as of yet.
I think Salim is right (like he was with his oddly specific correct predictions of the Flames signings in the summer of 2021). Treliving isn't coming back. Darryl will get the GM that will basically carry out what he wants. Our smaller prospects will be probably be moved. Including Coronato.
Also, our pets heads are falling off.
Thank you for the rant. I tend to agree, which bothers me that this is the plan because Darryl was not a great GM.
Plus, thank you for the bolded. One of may all-time favorite line deliveries:

What makes you think Sutter would even want that extra responsibility on his plate at this point? There are rarely (if ever) coach/GMs in the league anymore because you can't $*^% where you eat (there needs to be separation between management and the room), and even if you can make it work on that front, there's just not enough hours in a day to be effective at both roles.
If the Flames thought a move like this was prudent in today's NHL I would quite honestly just give up cheering for them.
