This is the Flames thought for sure.

But I don’t see why they feel the need to not just dress their best prospects.

Phillips, Zary, Schwindt, and Jones all have done more to deserve an NHL paycheque than Duehr IMO

Look I don't need you to agree with me. You point is just as valid.

By I didn't say the team lacks individual skill. I said they lack that individual skill and I think it's a big factor in a flawed powerplay and a lack of high danger chances.

Never said Huberdeau or any player doesn't have individual skill.

But they don't beat guys on one one with hands all that often, and that limits their ability to make the high end pass on a powerplay when nobody thinks there's a chance that they could be made to look foolish.

So yeah I think the team lacking one on one skill is a huge issue for high danger chance generation.

Are you seeing any of the powerplay guys doing that?

Huberdeau has all the passing skill in the world, he's an elite talent. But guys aren't as open because they know he's going to pass it.
I've seen enough of Huberdeau to know that he does have that skill, but doesn't use it all the time. Kadri I know less about, but I don't believe he has no ability to shake a guy and get open now and then.

It's not purely a systems or talent issue. It's a combination of both

You always give me hope there is more there!

He hasn't done much of it this season at all.

I reckon they aren't going to make any major changes while they are winning games and looking good while doing it.

Again, the riskiness of his offensive attack has dropped a lot after coming here. That tells me he is being coached to make safe plays while still generating what he can from being in a good position. It's easier to pass the puck than skate around a guys while maintaining position.

There are two separate conversations going on here, that are being interchanged.

My post, that you referenced, was not about the PP. The twitter feed referred to the Flames not getting the puck into high danger areas off of the cycle (5 on 5), and instead tend to stick with the safe play to the point, as evidenced by the fact that 4 of the Flames' defensemen are in the top 40 (or 60, or whatever) in shot generation.

That is a style of play issue for the entire forward group. And lack of skill is not the problem.

They both lit it up on the power play last season as well. So I don't buy it they lack individual skill.

If you look at the highlights they both got into the high danger areas easily Kadri with his shooting and Huberdeau was passing to guy to put it into open nets.

The biggest difference is that Matthew camped out by the right post so he was jamming passing and tipping pucks from that area. We have a lot of passers and shooters we lack the dirty area guy.

I don’t think that’s true. Game time is the follow-up opportunity that still has to be earned.

The first opportunity is to practice with the big team, interact with coaches and players, watch video, all that stuff.

If he’s ready, he’ll earn his game time in those moments, even if it doesn’t come in this call up.
If he’s not, he’ll he’ll get the cliched ‘seeing what NHL pros do’ experience and be better for next time.

It’s way more than just a better pay check.

Systems play a role for sure.

A lot easier to get into high danger situations when you blow the zone ... something they did in Florida, but don't do in most (all other?) NHL cities.

And I hope you're right.

I don't see a lot of guys "losing someone" on the ice and creating odd man chances though, and I think that particular skill or lack thereof plays into it.

These call ups are many things. The one thing i'm pretty sure they are not is a call-up to play in the line-up every night because they are needed.

Its an opportunity, its a bit of a reward for working hard and playing well on the farm team and to earn an NHL paycheck. I think for a guy like Pelletier its also like a second training camp. Practice with the team, day in day out. Learn something, watch the older guys. If you get a game in, don't disappoint.

There is a "Mix" issue on the big club, there were opportunities in training camp and no-one was good enough. These mini callups could either force the coaching staffs hands or plant the seed for later in the season. Or solidify a position on the depth chart.

Duehr to me is just a 4th line callup for that role if required, Pelletier is the flashy call-up. It sucks to put that pressure on a kid like that, but this whole fanbase is itching for a first round pick to finally make the team as a top 6 or 9 player.

Ruzicka is a nice story, an inconsistent one, but a nice story.

Pelletier and Zary are the first rounders with pedigree and potential that we want to see have success.

I think the game against Chicago would be perfect for players like Lucic and Lewis to rest and let the kids have a shot in the lineup. On the other hand, it's one of the "easier games" and would believe they want to make sure to get those 2 points, so yeah I don't know I'm just a little drunk rn and having lot of opinions and thoughts

It would be nice to Peltier get a few games next to Backlund, but that would mean Mangiapane either getting bumped up into Lucic's spot (but Lucic has been playing well), or bumping Mangiapane down to the 4th line, which won't help him find his game.

The team usually flies the parents in for a player's first NHL game (or at least they did pre-covid).

I think both players and other prospects with the Wranglers will get some playing time. This will help determine how busy Tre will be at Trade Deadline.
