I know at least one former Flames player didn't like the difference from his media and locker room persona, and I know at least one team member didn't like his over expressive press box reactions when the team lost to Dallas in the bubble when he was hurt.
Don't think he liked being second fiddle behind Gio, and then Gaudreau-Lindholm in his time here in Calgary. And don't think he liked that the story was about "Sutter" being the leader of the team, and not him.

Isn't this the same stuff that got the Kings motivated against us a few years ago?

As stated by others already, Matthew is not a leader, he won't put the team on his back and carry them, or drive positive culture in the locker room, or put the team as a whole first. Matthew Tkachuk is the quintessential narcissist, his one face for the media another in the locker room as mentioned by players exemplifies it. Matt cares about Matt and the status of wearing the C, he couldnt give a #### that it means leading the team, for him it's about Im in charge. Matt is carrying nobody to a cup.

He had 10 points in 12 games, good for 2nd on the team.

Huberdeau and Weegar played one of the best goalies in the NHL and the reigning champs.

Four players on the Panthers had more points than Huberdeau in the playoffs. Relative to his teammates, who played against the same goalie, he had a poor showing. And Weegar was wretched in the playoffs (key to the Game 2 and 3 losses), ask any Panthers fan. Some people on here were even cringing at some of his mistakes, and that was before he was a Flame.

All this Tkachuk bashing is a bad look. Feels very oilerfanesque to be honest. He's a great player. He may not be the best leader. He definitely isn't shy about touting himself. That's pretty much it. Why do some people feel compelled to find stuff to criticize him for?

Seems to be just as much trashing of current players
The guy forced the Flames to trade him to a small number of teams after they drafted and developed him. Being a little pissed at him is fair.

He assisted on the Stone goal 3 minutes into game 2. Sweet zip in the series from that point on. Also took a costly penalty if I'm not mistaken?

Not quite there is also a lot of “He sucks in the playoffs and he’ll always suck in the playoffs and the guys we got for him will be better in the playoffs”. That’s a real stretch to say on a player only 24, especially since the players we got have just the same if not worse playoff issues. Sure he got points bundled in games. That’s how scorers work they don’t score 1.1 points every game.

Honestly, if Tkachuk didn't say that he wasn't staying, I doubt Treliving would have traded him even if the Huberdeau/Weegar package was offered. It was a great trade considering we had so few options, but not the great fleecing some say. Obviously just my opinion.

This kind of argument is unreasonably dismissive and basically misses the point. The point is that Matthew hadn't produced when the chips were down and everything was on the line.
2022 final 4 games vs Edmonton - 1 point
2020 first 2 games vs Dallas before his injury - 0 points
2019 final 4 games vs Avs - 1 point
While it's true that similar things can be said for Huby & Weegar, the simple fact of the matter is that it was time for change and these were the best players available to Brad in exchange for Chucky. The change of scenery will likely be good for all players involved.

Sure he’s not been great but you can make a long list of players that had similar issues but then overcame them. Tkachuk is young he has time. I can remember when Yzerman was considered a playoff underperformer. A lot of those games as well were with Gaudreau as well and their success is very much linked. I tend to believe that post Flames Matthew is the one with better odds of reversing that trend since his game should carry over more to the playoffs.

4 goals in 2 games and 0 in the other 9 doesn't make you consistent or a good playoff.
Guy disappears when it matters most.

I’d like to think the Isles fans booed him because they think he pulled a Tavares-like betrayal on the Flames.

Bennett 3 assists, on pace for 62 pts.
Can’t create on his own, riding coattails of Huberdeau, derpy derp derp

Panthers are 9-7-1 with one of the softest schedules in the league thus far
I wouldn't be doing too much bragging about them yet...they seem like a much worse team too so far
scoring but allowing way too much
they are going to be fighting for playoffs not the presidents trophy...they are barely above .500 with the 29th hardest schedule so far

Yeah. Treliving got everything he could once Tkachuk informed him this would be his last year.
Not quite the same as going out and targeting the type of players you need which he has done in free agency to very mixed results. The big trades (this and the Carolina deal) were more borne of necessity.

Two guys that many fans so wanted to see develop for long careers with the Flames. There's certainly a lot of dashed hopes in that highlight

Haha, this is something that I never got, they were a really good match but it was never about just Huby. And Bennett is playing even better this year at least imo.
