Markstrom is really deep in his crease - if he is out 2', at the top of the crease, he makes that save no problem.
It was 5 on 4 IIRC (4 on 4 plus an extra man). He was deep to begin with because there was a fair bit of traffic. He was also likely worried about a cross crease, though the shot was the main threat. And it was still on the post. It was one of the harder shots I’ve seen all year.

Honestly, I disagree to an extent about the toxicity in general. Criticism is certainly valid, because a game is never perfect from start to finish and from every player. But I think this fan base has turned pretty toxic in general; here on CP, on Twitter, Reddit, the Discord, etc. Maybe that's just social media in general now? I don't know.
A large contingent of fans seem to prefer when the Flames disappoint or a specific player struggles just so they can say "told you so" and rub it in people's faces.
The way the fanbase turned in the last couple years is largely why I gave up making videos. Just not worth the time and effort anymore. Game threads are ugly, and have been for years... but now even a lot of post game threads are just filled with bickering and are rarely enjoyable to participate in either.
I guess that's what people seem to want though.
Okay. I'm interested in hearing your perspective.
We went on a 7 game losing skid. After a 5 game win streak.
And even though they've now managed to stitch together a couple of wins...those performances are hardly definitive.
Further, this isnt a team chock-full of rookies and hitting the Cap floor or anything.
We saw our team gutted in the off-season and then subsequently re-stocked, but this is a team with a window.
Management clearly put all their chips on the table to win now.
Would you place your money on that bet? On what you've seen thus far?
So why is it such a big deal when people voice concerns?
I'm not saying this is the worst team of all time, but if we've shoved all our chips in and this is the hand we're playing?
I want them to figure it out. I want them to become a great team that puts it all together and just tears this league apart. But I rarely get what I want.
I'm sorry, but I think until this team puts something consistent together...they're going to be criticized. And I think that criticism is valid.
We got the win! But its from turning a 5-2 game into a 6-5 nailbiter.

there are about 100 threads criticizing the team on CP
being nothing but negative in a PGT after a Win kinda ruins it
Anyone who wants to look at my post history will see I have been HIGHLY critical of the goaltending this season.
Today I gave an opinion that tonight many of the goals against were pretty unfortunate bounces and I get roasted for being "#1 Fanboy" by a resident ultra negative poster.
Goaltending has been bad this season but tonight he made the big save when it counted...he made the big save last game too.
Goal 3 and goal 5 are extremely bad bounces
come at me

I try and avoid betting on my team but just had a feeling tonight, both winning and with Huberdeau.
Luckily on each parlay minus the flames picks, the two other tough ones were on the MNF game. Had Hurts anytime td on one, Goedert on the other, both hit before half. Was smooth sailing after that.
Win some big cash and Flames win. Perfect night.

They're 7-8. Last year they were 8-7.
After that hot 8-7 start last year, the next 19 games were 9-10. 17-17, almost halfway through the season. I'm not especially concerned about it.
Last February with the half-Dome covid crowds, they figured it out and swept a 7-game home stand, all in regulation, where no opponent got more than 2 goals. Sutter's got the talent on this team to get them there again.

What ever happened to the poster that created the Wall of Shame?
Was it DJS Flames?
I loved that idea. I think he tried to make it too big and people were on it for really minor stuff, but if it was limited to just the real debby downer posts that would have been great
Just finished wading through whatever this thread was.
PGTs after a win should not be this depressing.
The new lines look great. Loving the fact Ruzicka seems to be fitting in and thriving.
I think most of the angst is around Markstrom and for good reason. We saw what happened last year when he wasn’t on his game. If he can’t find his game this season, things are going to get ugly. There’s still time and he’s definitely shown flashes, but he’s been extremely inconsistent.

Flames have had the toughest schedule in the league competition wise.
Flames have the 30th Save Percentage
Flames have the 27th Shooting Percentage
Flames are 32nd in PDO
Flames have had injuries to Huberdeau, Tanev, Kylington, Stone
Flames had a 7 game losing streak.
Yet they are 7-6-2 for a .533 points percentage and 9th in the West.
Honestly it’s pretty remarkable we aren’t already out of the race based on those stats. The shooting and save percentage will turn around, and this team will be fine.
