All fair points. Like I said, I still haven't had a chance to look for other sources that might corroborate what he is suggesting.

I'm confident whatever news is going to be broken on something like this is not going to come from some rando on twitter. Be smart.

I don’t think Russia could find it’s ass with both hands, much less intercept intel at this point.

That tweet reads like straight up Russian propaganda. Like not subtly either, overtly.

That is the exact Russian propaganda Shoigu's been trying to push and blame the Ukrainians for. None of the other countries were having any of his BS for obvious reasons.

Apparently spreading the information is more important than vetting or corroborating it...

Seems pretty clear that Russia's thinking about a False Flag operation to detonate a dirty bomb in order to galvanize support at home. Was in the NYT today. US intelligence has been all over Russia since well before this escapade, and they're pretty concerned about the chances. As before the war, US intel is hoping that airing publically Russia's plans disrupts those trains of thought.

It worked for awhile before the war until it didn't... Man is the situation ever terrifying.

Just curious about this whole dirty bomb conspiracy theory. Is Russia suggesting Ukraine is going to detonate one one their own soil, or are they saying that are planning to do it on Russian soil?

I think it's a dumb suggestion either way, but I am just wondering what they are actually saying. The former is dumb because no country would want to irradiate their own land, occupied or not. The latter is dumb because Ukraine is holding their own and would lose a lot of goodwill if they did it, even in Russia where Ukrainian sympathizers could play an important role in a future regime change.

There is literally no strategic purpose to do it.

First time posting, long time reader.

How does a dirty bomb work?
Technically known as radiological dispersion devices, dirty bombs are relatively primitive, imprecise weapons. They are much easier and cheaper to build than a nuclear device and also far less dangerous.

Dirty bombs use conventional explosives, such as dynamite, placed alongside radioactive material, which is then flung outward by the force of the blast. The amount of radioactive material dispersed, while dangerous, is not necessarily lethal.

The material used in the bomb could have been obtained from radioactive sources used in medicine and industry or from research facilities.

“A dirty bomb is really easy to make,” says Scott Roecker, vice president for the nuclear materials security program at The Nuclear Threat Initiative, a nonprofit based in Washington. “It’s a crude device.”

Maybe the zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant will be the dirty bomb. Blow the dam, NPP can't cool properly, suffers a catastrophe and Kherson city is flooded with radioactive water. The newly flooded and radioactive areas create a very tough barrier for the UAF to continue south towards Crimea.

No way is Ukraine interested in it. But Russia would use it on Ukrainian soil, and say the Ukrainians did it. They would probably use it against a Russian-allied target, maybe a population of pro-Russians. Seems unlikely to me to be used on actual Russian forces.

But propaganda inside Russia would turn that into a rallying cry for what is - as of now - a pretty hopeless strategic disaster. It is only a matter of time before internal pressure mounts to perilous degrees for Putin. But not if Russians believe in the righteousness of the cause. A successful false flag using a dirty bomb might galvanize the Russian populace.

It's taking the ridiculous "anti-Nazi" pretext for the war up several notches. Just like the unifying theme of defeating nazis, defeating a Ukraine that is using radioactive/nuclear tactics reestablishes Russia's moral standing in the eyes of its populace, and prepares them for what could be even more painful sacrifices to come.

The Russian maps that were being thrown around showed a radioactive cloud over the Zaporizhzhia region with winds blowing entirely westward into Europe. It is an incredibly dumb attempt to try to scare EU out of supporting Ukraine. Every foreign minister that Shoigu talked to basically laughed at him. These bozos think that they are smart and can fool the rest of the world with their domestic propaganda. Its not working.

Some of the propaganda Russian's are putting out domestically are absolute nuts these days. Like the ones where they are calling for the "desatanization" of the Ukrainian people. Apparently news made it back home there were no Nazis in Ukraine and they had to make something else up.

The guy is a Russian troll. Read his tweet history and definitely likes to promote the "superior technology" of the Russians. We're talking about a military that has been using open unsecured systems to communicate with their leadership. If they can't secure their equipment in the field what are the odds they've been able to intercept and crack the communications of the US and UK? The Russians have some of the best cyber warriors, but this seems like a reach. Sounds like a planted story.

This truly is a war of stupidity when it comes to Russia. It's one thing to spew lies about Ukrainian Nazis, fighting NATO, bridge terrorism and other cigarette accidents to a Russian population that is stupid enough to believe it. That #### clearly works on the Russian population, given the control of the narrative in their country.

However it's ENTIRELY different to try that kind of game against Western intelligence agencies when it involves nukes and other WMDs. This is no longer about showing photoshopped images or making up silly stories to a population that sits in front of the TV all day. You are now telling these lies directly to the best intelligence agencies in the world who have made it quite clear that this is a red line. Bull#### like that WILL get called out.

Sergei called up his counterparts recently to deliver what the of message he was told to deliver. Very clearly, it was an (pathetic) attempt to sway Western leaders.

Personally I think this whole dirty bomb thing is fear mongering. Really hope I'm right. And for Russia's sake I hope it is too, given that if they are truly dumb enough to pull it off and prance around their country saying Ukraine did it, it truly will be the beginning of their end.

Russians might live in a crazy dystopian world. But in the real world, that stuff isn't going to fly.

I really worry about this dirty bomb talk, because I absolutely think Putin would be crazy enough to use one on his own people in a false flag operation, and then use that to justify using WMD:s "in response".

Putin needs to be seen as a strongman - the invincible protector. I'm not sure that the narrative of Ukraine detonating a dirty bond within Russia's boarders fits that narrative. Also, Western Allies + India / China would see through him if any kind of nuclear device is used (including a dirty bond), so I don't think a false flag within Russian borders would help in anyway.

Now Putin detonating one within Ukraine's borders and blaming Ukraine, that I would see unfortunately. Just to demoralize them, mess up their land and just sow chaos.
