As a regular commuter, this has always happened when school returns. There's also line ups getting out of my community on the routes from the schools. So I chalk it up to people driving kids to school. With the bus system being extra messed up this year, I'm guessing the people driving has increased too.

School starts in September though, doesn't it? I noticed an uptick at that time and the school aspect made sense, but the October one is the one I'm not sure is purely due to school.

Yup. And in the corporate world, seemingly half the office is away on vacation almost the entire summer, people playing tag with vacations those months which keeps traffic down as well. Speaking of back to school/work traffic in general: I love what it represents given it implies the weather has been fantastic, but now that patio style temperatures seem to finally be gone as of today, I'm really hoping they finally pull all those makeshift patios that spill onto the street and turn 17th Ave into single lane traffic out of there this weekend. It's been borderline undriveable since June in rush hour due to it.

Especially with most of the alternative roads through and out of downtown to the south being under construction, it'd be nice to at least get 17th Ave back to normal again now that the 20+ temperatures are done for the year.

So entitled too, I was frustrated with one of em for doing that so I went once he safely passed me but hadn't quite 100% finished crossing yet and he started losing it on me. You're jaywalking bro, and you saw me coming before you even started crossing and just jumped out in front of me, get outta here...

Driving downtown just sucks in general, whether it's the core for business professionals, or the surrounding apartment areas for residents. And it's slowwww
I suspect this has to do with the sheer volume of pedestrians in the area vs anywhere else in the city

There’s a few large companies that are Tuesday to Thursday downtown. Mondays still seem quiet in general.

In general you should be banned from dropping off kids and picking them up with vehicles at school.

Kids/parents can walk or if farther than walking distance take the bus. Such a waste of traffic space.

I do enjoy that people want walkable schools in their neighborhoods, and then everyone drives their kids anyway.

Yeah no. I will drop my Elementary aged kids off at school. I drive it by it on my way to work at the exact time they would be going to school.

Also, It is a 20 min walk across two major roads that people speed on at all times.

Disagree completely, 17th should be transitioned into a 1 lane road full time. It's not and should not be an arterial road.

I wish 17th could be transitioned into pedestrian only. Unfortunately it’s just not feasible because it is an route for emergency vehicles.

I also wish the police bothered to ever enforce any traffic laws on 17th, especially at night in the summer. Nothing like having cars racing, weaving in and out of lanes and only having thing guardrails separating them from patios filled with dozens and dozens of people.

Sounds like you would be in the bus radius.

Not sure who needs to hear this in the world, but stop using US date formats where it’s “mm/dd/yy” or “mm/dd/yyyy”. It’s completely nonsensical. Just stop it. Stop it now. It just keeps leading to unnecessary confusion and extra work, especially when there is no reference to an example where there is a day that goes above “12”. Is stuff arriving on January 8th, 2023 or August 1st, 2023? It should be a fireable offence.

It's completely sensical and you proved it in your own post. It's in the order that literally everybody actually write out or says dates. Nobody says "8th January."

All bets are off until the supreme overlords force everyone to the correct format: the universal date format. Until then? Wild West baby. Today’s the 21th Oct of aught double deuce.

IIRC this is an American thing - the rest of the world (Europe) has common sense.

8th of January is totally normal. One extra syllable.

Nobody says 6th month 15th day 2022nd year, either. And that's what the order of those numbers only implies.

I don’t care how people naturally say it. I care how it reads and how it sorts.

Yyyy-mm-dd is the only acceptable written format. It sorts properly.

That's funny because I prefer MM/DD/YYYY specifically because of how it sorts.

Using MM/DD/YYYY, the oldest date will always be the smallest number. If I see 01 to start, I know it's at the beginning of the year. YYYY/MM/DD is my preferred format.
