Still guilty. Just look at the comments a lot of posters made in here before they actually knew anything about if this happened or not. Today's society is broken, accusations are all that need to made for the public court of opinion to find you guilty and start trashing you publically. Notice how the thread was rolling with trashy comments until the investigation cleared him, then crickets.
Exactly... so quick to judge without knowing anything but what they read in one anonymous persons post.... no verification needed here to tar and feather anyone accused of anything.

They do it with a spectacular amount of glee. Almost as if they’re above anyone who has a different opinion.
HUSBAND ARRESTED FOR KILLING WIFE AND KIDS
Says neighbour, "I saw everything!"
[Four weeks later...]
Paragraph on bottom left corner of page 16:
Quote:
Husband believed to have murdered wife and kids last month was cleared today as real murderer has been arrested and charged. Officer McDaniels said, "the husband was never even a suspect, we just brought him in as a formality and then let him go right away. At no point was he an object of our investigation."

Let's also acknowledge though that victims of sexual assault have historically been not believed, blamed, and targeted themselves.
And often the person committing the crime is someone the victim knows, so reporting and accusing them comes with risk. And higher risk if you think no one will believe you.
The justice system hasn't served them well.
I don't think this is a moment to celebrate an "I told ya so".

Just dripping in misogyny. Did you actually listen to those women during the Me Too campaign?
Are you familiar with how many sexual assaults result in a formal complaint? 30%
Are you familiar with how many sexual assaults from a formal complaint go to trial? 75%
Are you familiar with how many sexual assaults, that arose from a complaint, and that go to trial, result in convictions? 40%
And finally how many sexual assaults, result in a conviction? 10%
You're perpetuating it.

I really dislike the anonymous accusations and will wait until info comes out before I make a decision on someones guilt, unless it's a Cosby situation where there are multiple people all claiming the same thing. That doesn't mean I think everyone that gets off is innocent either, far from it.
But no one should ever be subjected to the idiocy and absolutely terrible music that is Tom MacDonald. I see that 3 million independent thinkers watched his new video already. The garages in Red Deer will be rocking this weekend with this new tune.
Are we at the point where we trust the NHL's internal investigation? The NHL head office can't even figure out how to investigate in-game incidents using a dozen high-res recordings (see goalie interference challenges, suspension lengths, or Coleman non-goal). I put exactly zero faith in their investigation.
Maybe Ian Cole did it and maybe he didn't. I hope the police look into it properly.

I went through the entire thread, and there were maybe 2 posters that "trashed" him (in that they spread a different rumour). Almost all the posts were about a toxic culture in hockey, which would neither be proven nor unproven with this Cole investigation.
I think "crickets" is probably the best result, and it would have remained crickets until you brought back a strawman.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

All of those are valid points, except the OP is not perpetuating misogyny anymore than they are defending due process. Part of why western society is the best place in the world to live today (It just is, there aren't caravans of refugees at China's borders) despite not being perfect is that generally before life changing consequences are administered, measures are taken to prove they are actually guilty of what's being accused first.
In this circumstance, an anonymous account accused Ian Cole of some awful things. They might actually be true and Ian Cole might also independent of these accusations be a total scumbag, however how can the NHL punish him in any way if the author of the tweet takes absolutely no further action, doesn't respond to being contacted, and no one else comes out of the woodwork with anything else to add to the discourse? What else is supposed to be done here?
Yes we should take all accusations by victims seriously and take every attempt to investigate when items are brought to light, however the bar needs at least some level of substantiation to what's accused before consequences are leveled.

Did Law Enforcement reach out to the complainant?
I mean you're right, the NHL has an exemplary record of actioning these on their own.

I think most people are seeing if anything meaningful comes out. The NHL doing a week long investigation into years of alleged abuse and making one attempt to contact the victim by saying “DM us please” on Twitter isn’t really what I would call a meaningful effort to get to the bottom of it. Doesn’t mean Cole is any more or less guilty, of course. It just means they can’t keep him suspended for something they don’t have evidence of. But they’re a business, not the police.
Seems mostly the usual crowd who always swing in to defend alleged sexual abusers and go silent when the allegations turn out true are the ones jumping up and down with “I told you so” or whatever, as I’m sure they’re pretty desperate for any sign of innocence.

I believe in truth and evidence, not assumptions of guilt or innocence leading to ill founded character assassinations of either party. Because justice is at times not served towards victims doesn’t make it acceptable to ignore the concepts of truth and evidence.
The goal shouldn’t be to push the pendulum to the opposite extreme, but to put it in the middle.
It's hard not to be a rapist, nobody's perfect" weird take by him, properly could have left out the "hard to be perfect" thing.
It's bizarre to me that a millionaire nhl player would do this, he could have almost any woman but he has to pressure a girl into sex, a minor no less. The story almost sounds too out there, hopefully a proper investigation is done because those are incredibly serious allegations.

I'm confused... When was Evander Kane accused of rape?
In the filing, Anna Kane claimed that Evander Kane violently forced her to have oral sex with him in March 2019 after a funeral for the former couple’s daughter, who died after she was born more than two months premature.
Days later, Anna Kane wrote, “Evander again forced me, against my will, to have sexual intercourse with him even though I had not healed.”
The filing says that when she protested, Evander said, “you can’t rape your wife.”
